    Lake area landmarked closed

FYI, The Pelican closed it doors Sat. evening. Sign on the front door cited slow economy, fuel prices as the reason.

Sad to see another local family owned business close up for whatever reasons. I can remember as a kid having to wait for a table at supper time. Of course that was when they were one of the few options in the area. It was hard to beat breakfast anytime there. Seems like it would still be a good location for a restaurant to go there.

Re: Lake area landmarked closed (fish)

I was over there Saturday for a farewell hamburger...sad to have to say goodbye to the waitresses...one of them that has always treated me and my clients so well had worked there for 23 years. These gas prices are continuing to take their toll. Tourist business was down 50% here in Marshall County this spring according to the Marshall County Tourism Board. These gas prices keep climbing like they are you will see a lot of small businesses going under for sure.

Re: Lake area landmarked closed (Dave Stewart)

Saw a crowd there Sat night Dave, wish I would have known it was the last hurrah. Would have liked to have had a burger instead of the ham sandwich I shared with the bugs Sat. night.

I grew up at that place! The Country Ham Breakfast and the Catfish Fiddlers were my favorite. I knew a couple of the waitresses as well, some for a VERY long time. This is very sad news indeed.
