I am looking at a ranger boat with a 175 Suzuki 4S (2007). The only worry i have about this boat is the suzuki motor. I know nothing about them at all. I also don't know anyone with one.
Can anyone comment on the good/bad about suzuki outboards?

In Portugal almost 100% of bass boats have four stroke engines, and Suzuki's are probably the most popular. The fuel economy and reliability are unbeatable. I owned a Mercury 90 hp four stroke, then a Honda 225, and now I ordered a Suzuki DF300 with a 20 inch shaft for my new boat.
If you have the opportunity take a ride, I am sure you will be surprised.

Go fill out the paperwork for the financing and don't look back! I love my 2005 df 140 and have had no issues w/ it at all. If you are into being a speed demon then any 4S is not for you, but if you want good performance and great reliability you will be set for years to come. The only thing I would caution you on is IMHO they can be touchy to prop correctly so see if you can get the dealer to let you test a few once you have the engine broken in. Also, make sure you have a dealer or two in your area who will work on them............there are not a lot of dealers in my neck of the woods...............but I haven't needed one yet either. Good luck.
5 Short of a limit
Thanks.. i have a dealer within 1 hour so i hope i am taken care of. I am buying the boat used. i don't see any suzuki's here in Wisc so i am still leary, but i have heard they are very good motors.
Excellent motor. I've had two boats with DF175s, loved them both. The do have a different gear ratio than a lot of the other engines out there, so will definitely not run the same with the same pitch prop. They also have a lot of low end torque and can turn a large prop if you needed to.
The Suzuki site has a test of the DF175 on a Ranger 185, they used a 27 pitch prop and performance looked pretty decent.
Boatless again but looking forward to Spring
Great boat motors, I've owned 2 Suzuki's and never had any trouble what so ever with them. You don't see a lot of them but the people that own Suzuki love them.
Life is better living on a dirt road.
I have 2 trouble free Suzukis of course, with proper routine maintainence. I was talking with my brother today who owns 7, 3 of which he makes his living on the water. He said one had about 7,000 hours and another had almost 5k.
yep, bought it and i am quite happy with it so far. No issues, runs perfect... the 175 is quiet too. I am running the 3 blade suzuki 23 pitch prop. Works well for 1 in the boat, works good with 2, but i bought a 4 blade 21 pitch for when i have 3 or more in the boat. The boat is a 1850 reata
Ranger Reata... its a multi species boat and not a traditional bass boat. I had a 27 pitch on my Stratos with a Johnson faststrike for speed, but with my reata we fish and ski. that's the reason i bought a 4 blade 21 pitch. But again, the DF175 is a very nice motor and it looks good too.
