    Going back to bed (long)

Some days you should just stay in bed...here is a prime example:

I got up this morning..checked the weather forecast and it said 80% chance of rain today and light south winds. I am stoked...can't wait to get to the ramp to meet my client to take him out and get him ready for a big tournament coming in this next week.

Get my stuff together and start up my truck to head to Ky Dam Marina to meet my client. What the hell is that racket under my hood? Sounds like the engine is coming apart. Open the hood and finally figure out that my air conditioner compressor sounds like a dish washer with a bunch of loose dishes bouncing around. Obviously my compressor is gone and so I turn off the air so it won't lock up. Head out to the ramp to meet my client....will just deal with the air compressor sometime down the road whenever I can find a day off which is not likely this time of year.

Get to the ramp and no client. Wait for an hour and no client. What the hell is going on here....I have had two "no shows" in the past month and now I am having a third one....getting one a year is about the norm...but 3 in a month? Decide to go back home just in case client has called me with a problem. Get home...no phone call. Wait another 30 minutes and decide, the hell with it...I am going to just go fishing myself and try to salvage the day.

Make sure the coffee pot is unplugged, lights are off, doors are locked and head out to the truck for a day of prime fishng weather by myself. Get in the truck and realize my keys (to include my house key) are in the house...now I am locked out of the house with no one home..wife is at work on a 13 hour shift and won't be home until 6:00 this evening. Step son is off chasing women for the weekend and I have no idea where he went.

Luckily my emergency cell phone is in my boat so I get it and call my wife. She works at the county hospital. She is in the middle of a patient emergency and tells me it will be at least an hour before she can get someone to bring me her house keys. Oh well, after all this I am not in any mood to go fishing now so I decide to just sit there, have some coffee and wait for someone to bring me some keys.

I hear some thunder that sounds close so I decide to go ahead and put the cover back on my boat so it does not get wet since I am not going fishing anyway.....I get the cover and I have it about half on when the hardest rain I have seen in 4 months hits and completely soaks me while I am putting the cover on the boat. Now I am soaking wet, really need that cup of warm coffee...and realize that I left my damn thermos in the house too.

After about an hour here comes a smart ass kid that works at the hospital with my keys...gets out of his vehicle with the keys with that "you really look stupid" look on his face.....I actually take the keys and go inside without leaving his body in my driveway...going back to bed now....if you don't hear from me again it will probably be because my house was hit by lighting today and burned to the ground with me in it.....

How do people have the nerve not to call you. Sounds like you need a vacation.

ok that it is what I would call a bad morning. I understand people that just don't call. Sort of dealing with that myself at the moment. It's disrespectful and inconsiderate and I just can't understand people that do that.

I hate laughing at other people's expense, but LMAO Dave! Sounds like one of my typical days.

If you wake up before 3 pm this evening you oughta head back to the lake for some off the hook evening fishing. Bet you could slay them today.

I guess it is all a part of dealing with the public but for the most part I have found bass anglers to be very much responsible and considerate folks. I guess there is a small percentage of these type folks in whatever you do. I figure this is the type person that would do things like: pull up on top of you and start throwing at your fish, find your wallet and take the money and credit cards out of it, do anything they can to stay out of the military but be the first to wave the flag, etc...etc...I think you get the idea.

As it turns out he did not give me a deposit...booked too late to get one here and so I just trusted him to show up...even went out and bought lake maps for him at his request because he said he did not have any and could not get the ones I recommended from where he lived in time for the trip. This is the second no show in the past few days....both are anglers from the Illinois Team Trail coming here for their classic. It is the first time they have been here for their classic. So far this does not speak well for the anglers fishing this trail. It is one thing to cancel a trip for a good reason...it is another to schedule a trip, not call and cancel and not show up.

As usual, when you call them to find out what their problem is for not showing, you get an answering machine and leave a message and never get a return call....I am sure folks like this have a caller ID on so that they do not have to talk to all the folks they have screwed to include creditors, relatives, etc....

I would say "their loss", but unfortumately in this case it is your loss too $$$.

Might be time to consider a merchant account with a credit card company and start taking immediate deposits ove rthe phone?

If this trend continues I will have to consider doing that for sure. Normally this only happens about once a year....hopefully this is not a trend that is starting but just a series of coincidences.

You could also start a paypal account for deposits. Maybe have more than 1 option? Just a thought.

I have given that some thought too Dave...thanks. Actually it normally happens so rarely it is not a big deal....and even though I have lost some money by these folks doing this, I probably needed the break anyway because I go at it harder than I need to anyway. I guess it is just the fact that people like this are inconsiderate that ticks me off. Even with a deposit I would still be out considerable monies. I turned down two people this week that wanted trips this weekend because I was booked, which if these folks had just called me and cancelled I could have taken the other trips. I understand things can happen to cause a change of plans...but I don't understand people that are not considerate enough to contact someone to let them know that they won't be where they said they would be, knowing that person will be there waiting on them.

Re: Going back to bed (Dave Stewart)

Anyway, calmed down now after a long nap today and got my bitching out. Gonna pour me Knob Creek and fire up the grill...tomorrow is another day and I am looking forward to it. I need to pour the drink now because Gregg (Slow Rollin) is down here fishing today, talked to him last evening, and he is going to be calling me here in a little while to tell me about all the great fish they caught today with these perfect fishing conditions we had today....

Steve: right now they are calling for pretty much the same as far as cloud cover and showers. We will be post frontal instead of prefrontal though. Give me a call this evening...we need to set a time and place to meet.

I know someone who kicked Dave's blacklight into the lake on a night trip. Shortly after, Dave stopped doing night trips.

    Dave,
It was great stopping by for a cup of coffee, and some good fellowship. You did the right thing in going back to bed. It was another touch day on the water. I had 1 good fish blow up on a buzz bait on my first stop, first cast. I missed it. Fished the grass until about 10:30 with not even another boil. Went out to the mouth of the creek and started working my way back into the creek on the feeder bank. I catch a bluegill on a crankbait, then Greg Gibson catches 1 - 13" bass on a jig. Woo Hoo fish in, I'm thinking we are onto something. Then I catch another bluegill on crankbait. End of crankbait for me, I pickup a 10" worm, in the back of a pocket just inside the mouth of a bay, just in front of the grass, BOOM keeper bass. Here we go again, we are on to something. NOT!!! We had maybe 10 more bite's, just those tap tap and get ready to set the hook and NADA. It is around 4pm and we are almost dry from the down pour we fished in all morning. We deside to head to the ramp, now on the way to the ramp, rainsuits in the storage boxes, it start's to rain again, by the time we get the boat on the trailor we are wet once again.
Now at the ramp, we are talking to a guy drinking a cup of coffee, a boat goes by which is a boat that was taking out the same time we did. I man waves and says that is Captian Kirk Guide. Well now I feel better about our day on the lake, as I was topping the ramps I asked one of his clients, not knowing it was a guide trip, "how did you guy's do today" he said not to bad we a 5 or 6. So it was touch for everyone. Oh did I say the forcasted 7 MPH south wind turned into a 20 MPH south wind with gust to 30 or at least those 4 foot roll's looked like it. All in All it was a fun day on Ky Lake, and I know what NOT to do in 18 day @ the FOM Regionals. BTW, The reason I did not call last night, I left my cell phone in the boat and put the cover on for the ride home, and it was late when we got home.
