Bass Pro Shops in West KY

Hi guys I'm tired of having to drive 2.5 hours to go to a BPS I was just wondering why they cant build a BPS in western KY we have one of the greatest lakes around if you look inside the cover where all the shops are or are being built there arent any closer than Nashville and they even have several in the same cities come on BPS get with the program.

welcome to bbc phil and I feel your pain on tackle around here but the truth is the lakes are so big and people attack it from so many different directions there just is no great location for a big tackle shop around here. I HATE having to drive to kuttawa to go to the cabin and they don't always have everything I want. There is a small tackle shop in cadiz but its the same deal, not all the good stuff. Talk to the shop you frequent the most, if you voice your opinion on the stuff you want they will generally stock it. But a massive tackle shop around here probably never will happen unless in paducah, and thats 1.25hrs for me

The Cabin and fishermans headquarters are about the best for getting what I need but they dont always have what I'm looking for and Gander mouantain in Paducah has a decent selection of lures but as for reels you might as well go to a yard sale I think I have more scrap reels laying around than than their entire store has in stock.

Hooks and Horns, the little store a few miles before you get to Paris Landing on the north side of Hwy 79 has a BPS sign out front now. Haven't been in that place in a long time but you might give them a call. # is 731-641-9997

I would just as soon they did not build a BPS here. When and if that happens we will lose the smaller good tackle shops like The Cabin where you can not only get a lot of quality lures that BPS will never stock but you will lose the individual attention from folks in the smaller stores that actually know something about fishing.

It is like having a Super Wal Mart move into your town...just like it did here in Benton some years back...puts a lot of mom and pop businesses out of business and all you get is off the rack type stuff with clerks that don't know anything about what they are selling.

Supposed to be a new, fairly big store coming to the Calvert area soon.

    I'm like Dave,

Keep the Big Super Stores out and use your small bait and tackles. At the big stores you don't get the service plus most of them hire the cheapest labor out there and usually they don't know the business. Go into the small shops and you'll often be able to find out whats catching the fish and maybe even a few spots to try.

I personally like the Cabin and if they don't have what your looking for let them know. If they can, they will order for you and even ship it to ya if your too far away.

I agree completely. I pay more for lures here in Murray at Bensons than they are most anywere else, But when I need something, It's just a mile down the road. I want them to stay in business and always just be a mile down the road with the baits that are producing fish here.

    P.S. Walmart sucks.

I get a lot of my stuff at Dunn's in Paducah. I used to not like them before Gander Mntn came in. But since they have a little competition, their bait selection has gotten better and prices have came down. The reel selection is still pretty bad. They are only about 2 miles from Gander toward town. At least worth checking out while your here.
