    Suzuki 150 four stroke

Hello, I am doing research on my next boat and thinking about a 4-stroke for their fuel savings and quiet operation. Also not ruling out 2-stroke though. The Honda seems like a good motor. Anybody have experience with the 4-stroke Suzuki? Are they quite, good on fuel. I usually just cruise around and fish but, what about top speed? Thanks.

Re: Suzuki 150 four stroke (stargazer)

I had a Four Stroke 115 Suzuki for 4 years and it was the best engine I've ever owned. I recently sold the boat to get into camping, but it never gave me any problems whatsoever. Preventive maintenance (oil changes, spark plugs, etc) was very easy to do with everything easily accessible. If you time your purchase right, you can get a 6 year warranty.

At the time of my last visit to the dealer to buy an oil filter they had only had one engine come back for major work. In this case, the engine was used commercially with over 2000 hours use and had not had a single oil change. They drained the engine and mollasses came out.

Top end will not be as good as the two strokes, but you will not find a more reliable engine anywhere. My 115 would push my 17.5' Challenger 55 mph, which is not bad.

What time of year should I be looking? A six year warranty would be nice. I have decided to get a Triton fs188 which is a fish/ski model 18' and expect to get about 55 to 60 mph. Not to worried about pulling skiers, mostly tubes, knee boards stuff like that, and of course fishing. The dealer said I could get a Merc. or Suzuki. What about the 2-strokes? Are they very loud, fuel efficient? I appreciate the help.

Re: Suzuki 150 four stroke (stargazer)

I have an '05 140hp and love it. I just moved to TX from NH and last year I fished the complete season on a tank and a half of gas for the season. The 1st time I pulled it out of the water at the end of a tournament the motor was still running. So, yes they are very good on fuel and very quiet. No nocks on the Honda's or anyone else but for the money and the 6 year warranty I think it is the best bang for the buck out there. Buy it you won't regret it!

I've seen the 6 year warranty offered several times around July. They may do it more than once a year though. Call your dealer and he may be able to shed more light on it.

The opti two strokes are pretty quite, from what I've heard anyway. They also get good gas mileage, relatively speaking. I don't think they have near the standard warranty that the Suzuki has, unless you buy the extended warranty.

I just know that there are a lot of people in my area with four stroke Suzuki engines and I've never heard anything bad said about them.

Thanks for all the input. The fact that there isn't a lot of traffic on this board also says something about Suzuki. Tight lines everybody

Re: Suzuki 150 four stroke (stargazer)

I've been running an 2007 DF150 since this past May. This replaced a carburated Evinrude150 and before that I had a 150XRi Merc. This is the smoothest running piece of equipment I've ever had. The fuel economy is very obvious compared to my past powerplants too. Heck, I leave it running half the time when I get up to fish cuz you can hardly hear the thing, it just purrs!

Oya, and it's got 2mph (gps) better top end than the Evinrude. I used to have a 21pitch but with the gearing in the Suzuki it swings a 25 to get the same results. I'm hanging on to this engine!

Looking forward to a smoke-free fall trolling season!
