    Re: (DR Stratos)

Nope that want happen. I am not saying hes not a good coach because he is, the 1998 title says that with Ricks boys. Its his recruiting that sucks or should i say his lack of recruiting. He has had one NBA guy on his team since he got there and that was Prince.

    Re: (RangerRodney)

Worst loss in school history (Kansas a few years ago), most 10 loss seasons of any UK coach ever (5 in the last 8 years compared to a total of 11 in the previous 97 years), longest stretch without a final four in school history, 3 mass transfers, numerous students in trouble, a constant lack of chemistry. Sorry but in any top sports program in any sport in college those recoords don't get it done. North carolina went to a final four the year after Dean Smith retired and that coach got fired 2 years later and then The guy before Roy Williams lasted 3 years. Indiana went to a final four with Mike Davis and then wanted his head on platter 3 years later. Alabama football, Shula took them to a bowl game and got fired. It's the way it is in the top of the sport. Winning is good but Tubby's program was a VERY fast downward spiral. Top 5 recruiting class in the country in '04 and 2 of the 3 seasons with them has been at least 12 losses. No top 50 recruits signed for next year too. There's a limited amount of talent there and NONE coming. It isn't just at KY it's any of the top programs in college sports. Sorry so long but I held that in to long.

    Re: (DR Stratos)

Here's some more stat's for you..

-First UK coach to go 8 straight years without a final four.

--First UK coach to have to play on Thursday in an SEC tournament since the expansion to the current 12 team format.

--The First UK coach to lose 10 or more games three years in a row, and 4 of the last 7 years.

--The first UK coach to lose to Vandy in Rupp

--The first UK coach to be swept by Vandy in a season in 32 years

--The first UK coach to lose 4 straight to an SEC opponent in 30 years.

--Only coach to lose to Ole Miss at Rupp

--Only coach to lose to Vandy twice at Rupp

--Only coach to lose 4 home games to SEC Opponents

--More Home losses than any previous UK coach

--Most Double Digit loss seasons of any UK coach

--1st UK coach to not finish at least 2nd in the East since the SEC expansion

--Most transfers and problem players of any UK coach

--Never recruited a player to play in a final four in 16 years as a head coach

--Fewest NBA draft picks of any coach with at least 5 years (only 2 1st rounders in 10 years)

--47% of his recruits don't make their senior year

--Current 5 game losing streak to florida could soon be a new record

--Only coach with the overall #1 seed in the NCAA to lose in the 2nd round

--Lowest Average Points Scored Per Game since the 3 point shot was introduced

--Worst loss to Indiana ever (26 points)

--Only UK coach to lose consecutive games to Kansas

--Worst Loss on Senior Day since 1919

--Only UK coach with a losing record vs Michigan State (2-4)

--Only coach to ever lose to a number 1 ranked team at rupp.

--Only coach to ever begin the season ranked in the top 10 and finish the season unranked.

--Worst average attendance at Rupp Arena for one season, under Tubby (00-01 avg.21,014), since it opened in 1976.

--Rupp Arena hasn't averaged 23,000+ since the 98-99 season in other words attendance is down due to his slower style of play.

--Has only defeated one Top 20 team in the NCAA tourney since 1998 (#18 Utah in 2005). Also, has not defeated a single team seeded 1 - 4 in the NCAA tourney since 1998.

--Is this our first season with 0 wins against ranked opponents going into the tournaments in 33 years.

--From 1902-03 to 1997 Kentucky had only lost a total of 11 ten loss seasons, Since Tubby has been at UK he has already lost 5 more to that total in 10 years.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This shows how much Tubby has let the program fall over the last 2 years. These our are regular season stats:

    Won/Loss record:
    Probation - 36-20 (64.29%)
    Past 2 yrs - 38-20 (65.52%)

    SEC record:
    Probation - 24-12 (66.67%)
    Past 2 yrs - 17-13 (56.67%)

    Wins against ranked opponents:
    Probation - 5-6 (45.45%)
    Past 2 yrs - 3-12 (20.00%)
--Outside of probation, this will mark the first time we have finished back to back seasons unranked since 1959-1961 (46 years).

--Already the most losses over a two year period (outside of probation era) in the history of our school.

Keeping these in mind, which way would a trend line point, up or down?

Percentage of games ranked in top 5:
    Tubby 16%
Pitino 59% (53% if you include probation year)

Number of games in top 5:
Tubby in 326 games ranked 54 games in top 5
Pitino in 269 games ranked 142 games in top 5

    Number of Home losses:
    Tubby 19
Pitino 5 (7 if you include probation year)

    10+ loss seasons:
    Tubby 4 (in 7 years - soon to be 5 in 8 )
Pitino 0 (1 if you include the probation year)

Tubby 7.9 (about to push that up over 8 )
Pitino 4.8(throwing out the 1st year)

Games played as #1 ranking: Pitino 10 Tubby 4
Games played as #2 ranking: Pitino 44 Tubby 14

Total games with top 5 ranking: Pitino 142 Tubby 54

    Team Turmoils:
    Tubby 2
    Pitino 0

    Transfers out of the Program:
    Tubby 14
    Pitino 7

    NBA 1st round draft picks:
    Tubby 2
    Pitino 10

Rick Pitino's 1st year 14-14 probation team averaged more than 10 ppg than ANY Tubby Smith team except 2. It averaged 8.9 ppg more than those 2 teams.

Rick Pitino - Points per Game
    1989-90 88.82
    1990-91 85.89
    1991-92 85.72
    1992-93 87.50
    1993-94 86.88
    1994-95 87.39
    1995-96 91.44
    1996-97 83.13

    Tubby Smith takes over

    2005-06 70.77
    2006-07 72.32

    Final Fours
    Pitino 5 (3 at Kentucky)
    Tubby 1

    Championship games
    Pitino 2
    Tubby 1

    NCAA tournament
    Pitino 22-5 (.783) (at Kentucky)
Tubby is 23-8 (.663) (at Kentucky)

*Pitino beat 11 teams seeded 5th or higher in 6 NCAA Tournaments.

*Tubby has beaten 4 teams seeded 5th or higher in 9 NCAA Tournaments.

*Tubby has beaten just one team seeded 5th or higher since his first season at Kentucky.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UK has 6 seasons of 9 or more losses in a 10 year period under Tubby.

That is 61 losses over the course of those 6 years.

His 4 years of other than the ones mentioned above he has only 19 losses.

I'll let you decided if 4 out of 10 seasons is acceptable at a top 3 program as UK clearly is.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7 out of 12 of Tubby's top 30-ranked recruits (Carruth, Parker, Stone, Allison, Crawford, Morris, and Azubuike) he has brought to Lexington have

    A. Openly questioned the program.
    B. Ignored Smith's advice to skip the draft even to the point of not being selected.
    C. attempted to transfer.
    OR.....
    D. transferred outright.

    * summer of 1998 Myron Anthony wrecked car and Wayne Turner lied about what happened.

    * fall, 1998 - Jamaal Magloire involved with drugs.

    * fall, 1998 - Ryan Hogan involved in underaged drinking.

    * winter, 1998 - Myron Anthony transfers.

    * spring, 1999 - Michael Bradley and Ryan Hogan transfer.

    * winter, 1999 - Nate Knight transfers.

    * spring, 2000 - Tubby, in his second year of recruiting, fails to add a top point guard and ends up taking New Mexico commit, Cliff Hawkins. Sawyer, Ridnour, Cook, Taylor, Barrett and Brown all say no to UK. Cook, Ridnour, Taylor all end up playing in the NBA while Brown and Taylor end up playing for Final Four teams. Hawkins, who verballed to New Mexico, would be one of many players who had committed to schools that Smith still went after: Crawford ( Michigan), Alleyne(Rutgers), Woo(Fordham), Tackett (Clemson).

    * spring, 2000 - Desmond Allison arrested for substance abuse and illegal drugs. He decides to transfer to a D-2 school instead of continuing on at UK.

    * spring, 2000 - UK's "silent verbal" from Darius Rice turns out to be nothing as Rice picks Miami. UK's other big targets pick Oregon (Ridnour) and South Carolina (Howell). First sign that little schools could beat blessed Smith in the recruiting wars.

    * summer, 2000 - Jules Camara arrested for DUI and suspended for a year. Showing his intelligence, Camara tries to climb into the back seat of the vehicle (obviously the cop saw this feeble attempt)

    * summer, 2000 - Michael Southall found with video camera as he makes a documentary on how he and his friends smoke hash.

    * winter, 2001 - Marquis Estill suspended.

    * spring, 2001 - Marvin Stone suspended for assaulting a girl with a phone.

    * winter, 2002 - Rashaad Carruth suspended as he refuses to take shots in game because he was protesting a lack of playing time.

    * winter, 2002 - Adam Chiles suspended.

    * winter, 2002 - Marvin Stone transfers.

    * spring, 2002 - Cory Sears and Gerald Fitch get into a fight when Fitch throws a water bottle at Sears.

    * spring, 2002 - Erik Daniels and Gerald Fitch use fake I.D.s to try to get into a nightclud.

    * spring, 2002 - Adam Chiles and Rashaad Carruth laugh at Tubby on national TV.

    * summer, 2002 - Jason Parker transfers after supposedly being found with drugs.

    * summer, 2002 - Rashaad Carruth tranfers.

    * summer, 2002 - Adam Chiles transfers.

    * summer, 2002 - Cory Sears transfers and says, "Kentucky's just not the same anymore."

    * summer, 2003 - Marquis Estill ignores Tubby Smith's advice and enters the draft (he is not selected).

    * summer, 2003 - Bernard Cote transfers.

    * fall, 2003 - top PFs begin picking other schools over UK as UK has the PF spot wide open. PFs who end up not picking UK in this recruiting cycle are Hansbrough, Echefu, Leo "Cry me a river" Criswell, Barber, Brown, and many others. All of these players had UK on their top spot at one point or another but UK failed to bring all of them in.

    * winter, 2005 - Joe Crawford tries to leave team but UK refuses to grant him his release.

    * spring, 2005 - Kalenna Azubuike, after Smith says that he will not hire an agent, does exactly that four days later (he is not drafted).

    * spring, 2005 - Randolph Morris refuses to call Smith as he enters the draft (he is not drafted). His parents cite the fact that Tubby did not develop their son properly.

    * fall, 2005 - with the PF spot wide open for the second straight year of recruiting, Brandan Wright, Thadd Young, Deon Thompson, Kevin Durant and others all pick other schools with top PF talent already in place (with the exception of G-Tech and Young).

    * winter, 2005 - Ramel Bradley seems hesitant to say whether he is content at UK.

    * winter, 2005 - Rajon Rondo is rumored to be at odds with Smith and his team as he says, "There's some egos."

    * Feb. 2006 - a player that nobody had in their Top 150 recruits (who was given a scholarship very early by Tubby) transfers from UK - Adam Williams.

    * May 2006, JUCO transfer Simms leaves UK after one year.

    * Summer 2006. Tyrone Nash. A player that was being recruited by the likes of Seton Hall before UK stepped in and offered a scholarship. Nash responds "thanks, but no thanks UK I think I'll go to prep school for a year and get a better offer after that". Obviously not his exact words but why else would he turn down a scholarship from UK to go to a prep school???

also, some of Smith's best players picked UK after their preferred schools screwed them. Prince loved UCLA but the Bruins screwed his older brother. Rondo loved Louisville but Sebastian Telfair was there. Hayes wanted Kansas and Roy Williams but Kansas put him on hold for Josh Childress.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kentucky is 1-7 vs. teams ranked in the AP top 10 when they played them over the last three years. The only win was over a #4 Louisville team in 2005 that eventually failed to make the NCAA tournament. In contrast Kentucky was 8-3 vs. top 10 teams during the first two years that Tubby was the coach in 1997-98 and 98-99. (0-2 in 2004-05, 1-2 in 2005-06, 0-3 in 2006-07).

Kentucky is 8-15 vs. top 25 AP ranked opponents over the past three seasons including 0-6 this season. (4-3 in 2004-05, 4-6 in 2005-06, 0-6 in 2006-07).

Kentucky is 1-6 vs. teams ranked in the AP top 20 in the NCAA tournament since the championship season of 1997-98. Again in contrast, Kentucky beat 4 top 20 teams to win the championship in 1998.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The losing 10 games now is acceptable because we play more games argument is bogus. UK isn't playing anymore games per season now than they did under Pitino. Pitino's first 2 teams were limited to 28 games because of the postseason ban. I will include stats for Pitino' teams both ways, but throwing out the probation years is a more accurate barometer of games played per season. I didn't include any of this years games for Tubby, that would skew his total.

Pitino total: 269 games, 33.63 games per season, 50 losses, 6.25 losses per season.

Pitino minus probation: 213 games, 35.5 games per season, 30 losses, 5 losses per season.

Tubby total through 2006: 312 games, 34.7 games per season, 71 losses, 7.9 losses per season.

As you can see, Pitino's non probation teams actually played MORE games per season.

This is ranked by win %. You will see how the number of losses appears to nearly be in perfect sync.

    1) 1996 - (34 - 2) - 94.44% - [Title] - Pitino

So - now you are without a coach, who are you going to get? Calipari - he is a good coach, but will put your team on probation. Everyone is locking up their coaches with long term deals..

I am sure you could get Sean Sutton, or Travis Ford, or maybe even Pat Riley would come back.

The word is out that Meeks might be gone as well, i think he could be a great player some day with the right coach.
