Of course I talk to myself...sometimes I need expert advice.
Brad and his partner were having a blast catching fish one after the other yesterday and some points. I need to get out and learn that jigging spoon with you Brad!!! They also caught tons of spots one after he other and brought one to the scales that was obese!
We certainly don't want to give the impression that we break the law willingly and knowingly. That pic may be questionable, but to my knowledge those guys were slaying them and just hooked them up for a quick pic.
And Brad, we will call it even and go dutch at Hooters since it was a big fish tourney and you obviously caught a sack.![]()
OK guys to answer the question of the day, as it obviously has a lot of you guys concerned... PLEASE NOTE: THAT IS NOT, I REPEAT, NOT A STRINGER, THEY ARE ON CULLING TAGS FROM BPS!!!
Here's a play-by-play of how it panned out. The guy in the picture (my partner) caught all three fish within about a five minutes. He hooked the first fish and I netted it. I held the netted fish as I was trying to get my measuring board out of my storage box (couldn't find it right away) and my partner immediately dropped his jigging spoon (there ya go, I told ya what we caught them on...) overboard and hooked up again! He got that one in and lipped it! Since I am so unorganized and couldn't find the 22" board, rather that keeping a nice smallie out of the water, I put a culling tag on fish # 1 and #2 and placed them into the livewell with the large spot that we already had. I found the board and pulled out one of them to measure it, and since we were obviously on a good school of smallies, I told my partner to get his lure back in the water! Again, immediately, he hooked up with another! This one really bull-dogged him, and he yelled out to me "this one is bigger than the last two!" So, rather than just throwing the one I had pulled out to measure, down in the floor or overboard, I put it back in the livewell to assist him. He got it in, with the assistance if my superior netting skills!
Soooooo, here we are with three huge smallies, all of which we believed to be keepers! I know what we did was not 100%, by-the-books legal, but who would have NOT done it??? NONE of the fishwere harmed in any way, and they spent no more than probably 4 minutes each aboard the boat. He was absolutely floored at the size of them, and had to have a picture of that once in his lifetime moment, so we put a tag on fish #3 and snapped the picture! The reason for tagging the third fish: trying to pose for a picture with 3 pissed off smallies is not an easy task! Then we began measuring... 201/2", 20 1/4", and 20 7/8"! Unbelievable!!! ALL of them were short, and (almost) immediately released!!! Sorry for offending you guys with those big-ol' smallies, just thought you'd enjoy them... guess not...![]()
Nice explanation but not necessary. You have always followed the rules and I give you the benefit of the doubt. I like to leave the law to the law men. What a great day!![]()
Brad I bet that was some fun action. Those of us that were at the ramp and talked to you had the benefit of hearing about your day so the picture caused no questions. I CAN see how folks who did not have the above info could question the three undersized fish without knowing the circumstances and not knowing the way you conduct yourself. You could have gotten away with standing there smoking crazy weed in front of me but if I had a suspicion you messed with those beautiful smallies I would have had to spring into action.

If that happened to me I would have taken the pic too! I would have measured every fish and taken a pic. IMO your PARTNERcaught them so fast it was no different than catching a 20" smallie, measuring it and taking a pic of it and putting them back. I always do. No biggie and I think your explanation will ease the minds of those who were not there and/or did not know how fast you all were catching em. Jigging spoon....HA!...good one.

Buck
I cant believe this thread has come to this!!!! Why should anyone have to defend themselves over a picture of fish! We all know the fish were released, Whats the big deal!! We all have taken a picture of a short fish at some point, Dale is a great lake to catch a trophy type fish, but it is to small to keep.
It is amazing how people want to judge others before they know the whole story![]()
Nice Fish Brad!!!
Mikey, I think the question came about because the slot fish are to be released and from the pic someone assumed they had been kept in the well for [picture purposes at a later time. I think the explanation will serve them well.
Thankes Bumblebee! I do hope everyone is satisfied with my previous post... If not,![]()
DANG Cassell...settle down.I have never seen you upset before. If posts on a fishing site is what gets you all torn up we need to get you some "medicine". It is just fishing. Now, when I tell you that both tires on your boat trailer are flat I would expect some drama. We need a jack and two tires. I have a four way lug wrench.
Buck
P.S.--your tires are not flat. Stop by the house this afternoon and we can have aand talk about how this is just a forum about boats and fish and stuff and the impact that fishing is having on your life.
Just trying to keep things real! But thanks for the advice Barney Fife

Damn good advise Buck - I think we outta petition to remove the "Dr. Phil Show" and replace it with the "Officer Buck Show"![]()

It would have been nice, since you know how a school like that can be, if you had not assumed that we broke the law...

Buck I can explain our boy Cassell's irritability. While we were fishing yesterday I spotted a beaver, yes a real live beaver in the middle of the lake. When I mentioned it to Mike it slapped the water with it's tail really LOUDLY! Mike momentarily thought it was a giant squirrel!! Trust me it was very traumatic for him. Thank goodness we got a cell connection and got his therapist on the line to help calm him down. I guess the post here was a little residual from that traumatic experience!![]()
![]()
Seriously, this is all true except for the therapist part which I may have embellished ever so slightly for dramatic effect!!!![]()

Brad you had an awesome day!! Sounds like your explanation calmed the nerves of those who were concerned. I know that everyone who knows you including myself would absolutely vouch for your character and integrity as far as following the rules etc. Again congrats on a GREAT Day!!
It still think it was a GAINT squirrel!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See they will only mess with me when I do not have Buck in the boat!! They know he will shot them!!!!!![]()

Thanks John!
