The only thing I can say for sure is the Mule deer in MT were rutting last week...& I took advantage of it.

One nice 7-point Muley with a 19" wide spread & a couple 13" long tines, 200yds running away, stopped by a few 30/06 riffle rounds. It was a good day for this Yankee. No monster but I was happy.

A FEW 06 rounds Sounds like a Yankee shooter as well

Angling away shots are tough...at lest you got him

Glad you had a good trip and did not come home empty

Jamie was it a fully Mule deer, meaning in some places in MT, WY Mule and White tail deer are cross breading,

I took my wife's friend's 14 year old son out Sunday afternoon (his father doesn't see him very often) and he got his first deer a 14" 8 point.

Awesome Roddy ...From what I heard it sounds like the bucks were really rutting and chasing hard this past weekend down in KY .

    ED,
Yeah yeah I hear ya on the multiple shots. Up there all I heard was keep shooting till they're down. Well (3) shots later he finally fell about 300ft into the bottom of the cooley ( that's MT talk for raveen). 3 shots and yes 3 confirmed hits. Lost quite a bit of meat . No 1/2 back muley, he appeared to be full blooded. Tons of Prairie maggots out there .

I will try to past a pic.

Ya those lazy type guides will tell you to keep shooting till they fall so they don't have to go as far to get them The more meat that is ruined the less they have to pack out But can understand it as well, Mulies can run a long ways after being hit, but a good shot will drop them in pretty good time.
Hope the cooley was not a deep one

I think I had as much fun as he did. I've now been sitting with 6 different kids when they took their first deer. The smiles on their faces sure make it worth while.
