    BPS Reels

Up until now I have used only Curados, the green ones. I can tell you that I won't be paying over $200 for any reel, I have a Chronarch that is my best reel, but I can do other things with that money. I have looked at BPS and they have the Pro Qualifier with 10 bearings. does anyone have ny experience with their reels?

    Re: BPS Reels (mikedaleo)

Mike - I got 2 of the qualifier 8 bearing reels a few years ago. Love them. Have since put the same ones on almost all my rods. Have not fished a lot with them, but they have done me good. Have tried a Chronarch before, and do think they are smoother, but cannot justify the additional cost. Hope this helps you some, Sully

    Re: BPS Reels (Ranger250)

I want to know whos buys 450 and 650$ reels. New BPS catalouge has a Diawa for 450 and a Shimano for 650 WTF who can afford these things and why are they sooooo much more expensive.

For $600 you can get a Penn reel that will catch a sailfish.

I've got a 10 bearing Pro Qualifier on my deep cranking rod and love it. I also have 3 Chronarchs that are great that cost me about the same money. I bought them used of Ebay for about $20 more than the Curados bring.

If any of you guys use a left handed reel, I have a Scorpion SF I'd let go for $100. I just can't get the hang of reeling a baitcatser with my left hand.

    Re: BPS Reels (mikedaleo)

mike, I have used the 8 bearing models, fact is, if you fish alot, they simply wont last. If you fish once a month of so, you can get three or four years out of them, but if you fish more than that its more like two years. Buy the new $119 model shimano, cant remember the name of it but I have talked to people that say they are just as good as the curados

    Re: BPS Reels (buzzking2001)

Thanks for the heads up on the usage end of it. With a 2 y/o and a new baby at home, I have only been out like 3 times this year. At that rate these should last me until the kids are out of college!

    Re: BPS Reels (fishinbrad)

I have bought 6 of those reels in the last 3 years as combo's on sale around Thanksgiving. I really like them but the last 2 years I have blew out the anti-reverse in 2 of them fishing hard jerk baits in the spring. Good value for your buck in my opinion.

I got some a couple years ago and like them, but like others I am starting to have some problems with em.. look at the Pflueger Purist (or any other pflueger) at like $79 its one of the smootest reels you can buy!!!

    Re: BPS Reels (mikedaleo)

Mike, The New Shimano Citica's are the one's that replaced the old green Curado's. They have the same bearing count as the old curado's, but have the new large gears...The new Curado's have an upgraded bearing count and are not worth the money anymore... The only bearings that make a Shimano cast well are the outside spool bearing and the pinion bearing (inside of the spool)...The other bearings are just to make it reel smoother and with anything over 5 bearings, I cannot really feel much of a difference.....

My Dad had a few of the BPS reels in the last few years and they have all gone back to them with damaged internal parts...Now it is Shimano and Quantum PT reels only for him..

    Re: BPS Reels (201pro)

Pflueger President $139.95 @BPS, I have two and love them.
Pflueger Summit $159.95 @ BPS, have one and is a great real.
Those two reels are just as smooth as the Diawa -X HSD-F which I have 4 of...when time to replace my reels Pflueger is the direction I am going.
All of Sue's reels (spinning) are Pfluegers and she loves them.

    Re: BPS Reels (mikedaleo)

I've got one of the bps pro qualifier reels but honestly would buy a Shimano citca for the price. It works ok but not the smoothest I've got.

You are bringing 8 sissy reels to fish against me? You better pray hard at the meeting Thursday night. You will need divine intervention. See you all in a day or two. Seriously, good luck......Top 7....all we need....top 7.

    Re: BPS Reels (Rippinlip)

I bought two of the 7 bearing BPS Pro Qualifiers low profile bait casters and I like them very well. I also purchased two of the round bait casters and I was not impressed with them. The next time I need reels I will get more of the low profile ones instead of Daiwa. The BPS is a good reel for the $
