Question for Dave Stewart/ Kentucky Lake regulars

My buddy and I are heading to Kentucky Lake next weekend, 3/10-3/12, we've never been there before but I've got the ole' TVA maps and have a couple of ideas of maybe where to start. What do you suggest I target, smallies, spots , or largemouth? I love smallie fishing but , we're trying to get the most out of the short time we're there. Staying near Ken. Lk. Dam. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Since you have never been here before and the lake is at winter pool my best advice would be to hire me for the 10th since I am still open that day so that you are not pulling your boat back home on the 11th without a lower unit.. I would target Smallies first if the wind is favorable on the east side of Ky Lake...I would be on Barkley for Largemouths. Jerkbaits and crankbaits.

Talk about coincidences...after answering the post I was out today and guess what we saw outside Ky Dam Marina on the road bed the juts out off the north bank just outside the Marina....yep....a pleasure boat being floated up after tearing a hole in the bottom of the boat when he hit the roadbed....I guess he did not see that line of red bouys out there or did not know which side of the bouys to be on.

Are they biting yet Dave? I am all out of Patty's seasoning so I guess I will have to drive ALL the way over there to get some more real soon.

Re: Question for Dave Stewart/ Kentucky Lake regulars (Rippinlip)

Buck: I was out on Wednesday for the first time this year. I was running my boat out after getting it out of storage...I fished here and there and ended up with 6 fish that the best 5 would have gone 18-19 lbs. Had one nice LM over 6lbs. Got her on a blue/chrome rattletrap...sound familiar? I was out yesterday but the north wind was howling....we only on the water for 4 hours and most of that was moving here and there to look at spots for an upcoming tournament.....we had 4 fish, 3 LM and one SM...nothing monsterous but fun anyway. From what I have seen I expect the bite to be really good in another week or two unless we have a period of extended cold weather that drops the water temps back down.
