CincyBas I will be down your way at Tanners and Big Bone for BFL's. Are familiar with the area around Big Bone as I need to find a hotel to stay at.

    Re: (perfection)

Perfection I used to live in that area, and fished the river a lot and launched out of big bone. You are going to have to look for a hotel/motel in Florence, or near I-75/71. Nothing at Big Bone but a camp ground, or the camp ground at Big Bone State Park, and Big Bone does not have a lodge. Should add this is the way it was 2 yrs ago before we move and doubt it has changed. Good Luck

    Re: (perfection)

    Ok here ya go

I-75/71 South (after crossing the Ohio River and you are in Kentucky )you want to take Exit 180 for Hwy 42/127 South.
From that exit to Big Bone Ramp is about 25 -30 miles.
Go threw Union on 42/127 S and fallow the signs to Big Bone State Park.
You will have to turn Right onto RT. 1292 which I doubt is marked, But there is a sign for the park. Go past the entrance to the State Park( entrance will be on your left) go over a small bridge right after the bridge is a road to the left, Turn onto it.
Fallow it until you hit water DO not turn right at the stop sign.

Now as far as Hotels/Motels go, am not sure sense they built a minor league ball park in that area what is there now. But at that exit there used to be a Holiday Inn, and a Comfort Inn behind KFC. Oh when you exit I-75 S you want to turn RIGHT.
KFC will be on the left right as you turn.

One other thing they where building a bypass around Union and don't know if it is done or not. BUT when you get to a strip mall on the left that has a Kroger in it you will find out real fast for right after that is where the by pass was going to enter. If you can get ahold of a DeLorme Kentucky Atlas & Gazetteer Topo Maps of the Entire State - Back Roads - Outdoor Recreation that will help you a lot. http:www.delorme.com or they sell them at Barns and Nobel.

Hope that helps, thats about all I can remember/find good luck and good fishing

    Re: (EdDavisKY)

Ed, I'm new here but I think it is only about 15 miles from the exit to Big Bone ramp. I drove there yesterday just to check it out since I've never been.

    Re: (RD3)

Ok Roy might have been 25 -30 miles from where we lived in Independence, shrugs, was more worried about remembering how to give him directions than milage, you are probably right tho 15-20 miles from I-75 is probably correct.

    Re: (EdDavisKY)

Perfection when are you coming down?

Thiers lots of hotels near both Big Bone (Florence area 10-15mins to ramp) and Tanners (Lawrencburg area especially since the gambling boats moved).

I fish this portion of the river quit a bit but thats what it normally is just fishing not much catching!

    Re: (CincyBas)

I will be at Big Bone for a June 17th BFL and at Tanners August 19th. Yes you are right about the fishing but not catching. I fished out of Tanners a few times last year and it was less then impressive. The one 12" keeper I caught was so skinny you could see through it. Do you ever go up and fish "THE PIT"? I had a good practice day in there but then they put it off limits. I should have the hotel for Tanners covered as we try to stay at that dive on the right hand side when you first head towards the ramp, Wishing Well I do believe. But have not lined anything up for Big Bone.

    Re: (perfection)

Reference motels for BFL out of Big Bone. I spoke with the folks at Plapp's Pro Outdoors (a large tackle store and marina nearby) and they were to have a meeting with the Ky Dept of tourism last week in hopes of having one or more of the area motels add electric hook-ups to their parking lots. Right now none of the motels in the area have any outlets.

I will be at Plapps this weekend for their Open House and will ask about the meeting with KY. I will post the results here.

Here's a link to most of the motels in the area.

    Re: (EdDavisKY)

From my experience you might as well not even pre-fish it, because it is a given it will not be close to the same the next day. My suggestion is to fill it full of cement and turn it into a a highway or race track.

Perfection the trick on the river is to know where to be when the locks open and the current starts But then that is not fool proof either

    Re: (EdDavisKY)

If I'm not mistaken I think the guy that won the Tanners BFL last year was in a skinny john boat and word has it he went through some concrete tube. I heard they are making rule changes to prevent this.

Basser1OH good point on using Plapps for local info. How did you like the Plapps thing this past weekend. Man do they have a lot of Plapp Hummers or what?

Perfection give Plapps a call plus they are a BBC sponsor.

Ed I'm open to fish the Ohio with you anytime you feel the urge to reminisce on your old stomping grounds. Seriously don't you hesitate to call. Heck I might even let you drive again...........
