    New Old World Record Smallie

Just read on the Gary Yamamoto Weekly News Magazine that the old world record smallie caught by David Hayes of Litchfield, Ky in 1955 was reinstated by the IGFA on Monday as once again world record. (11lb 15oz)

It is about time this was rectified.

I assume that KDFW will reinstate it also as the state record...surely they will.

Down side is that I was just zeroing in on a new 9lb state record and now I am gonna have to spend another lifetime looking for a 12lb.....

It's about time they used common sense. 27 inches long and over 21 in girth?!! That is one big damn fish!

Dave, do you believe there are 8 and 9 pounders swimming in KY or Barkley?

I'm not Dave but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. I know of two 8lbers and I think Tritorodney caught one also. I've seen one that was bigger than that.

Mike: I know of two 9's caught on the Tennessee side within the past couple of years. I have not broken the 8lb mark myself here but I know for certain there is at least one here on the Ky side...lol. I definitely had her on and got a good look at her last July 4th weekend during a night trip. There really is no doubt in my mind that there are 8 and 9 lb plus smallies in Ky Lake.

My biggest so far is a 7lb 14oz monster...had a few in the 7 lb range as have some of my clients..we had 3 over 7lb in the boat last this past season and lost a few more that I am sure were in that class....man those big smallies can humble even the most experienced angler...

Those are true giants... Sold, i am going to have to come fish with you this spring; my biggest is 5lb 8oz, although it was a river smallie. Not as big and fat as them shad filled lake smallies. Those buggers are stout.

Last two weeks of March is normally prime time here if the wind cooperates....also a good time for a trophy LM. Be glad to give it a try with you...don't wait too long to book though or I won't have any days open during that period.
