Can I install a digial tach with my 02' Merc 125? If so do I need a Mercury specific unit or does it not matter? Any special parts needed to hook it up? Its going in a 09' Beeline 278 if that matters.

The Tach Signal Wire (Gray) is already there at the ignition switch harness (may already be at the dash, depending on how your engine is rigged).
Not all tachs will be compatible with the signal this engine puts out. You'll need a tachometer that can process the appropriate signal.
Mercury does offer a small digital tach/service reminder instrument....

Thanks for the info. Any idea where to get something like that, I have looked but not finding much. Also is there anyway to verify the accuracy of an analog tach, thats the reason behind wanting to go with the digital. Engine is a 02' Merc 125 serial#OT441501 and everyone says that I really have to be careful with the rpms on this thing.

Does this get wired in a certain way or do these have the wire that wraps around the spark plug wire and takes the signal from that?
