    Comments on 175 HP optimax

    just looking for comments on the 175 Optimax (sorry no special year .. the add does not show year of manuf.)

    anything special to watch for on used motors do they have a good reputation or are they money pits ?

    Good solid engines- built on the tried-and-true 2.5L Platform.

    More specific information might be available if you can obtain a serial number.

    As with ANYTHING used, have it checked out (including at least):

    -Compression Test (Better yet- a leakdown test)
    -Gearcase Check (fluid quality, propshaft runout, shifting quality)
    -Computer Diagnostic Printouts (Run History, Freeze Frame "Fault" History)
    -Maintenance History (and current NEEDS Review)
    -Test run on the water to confirm proper operation
