    2002 Mercury 200HP Optimax OR 2001 Mercury 200HP EFI

All, need your help. I am upgrading my 97 and looking at the following motors. I have heard about major issues with the early year optimax.
What is your guys take on the following options. Im not concerned about fuel consumption as much as I am about the reliability of the motor.

Any feedback is GREATLY appreciated as Im about to make a decision on the boat for the next few years. Thanks!!

Re: 2002 Mercury 200HP Optimax OR 2001 Mercury 200HP EFI (tgrife)

Most of the "problems" with the 200 Optimax were corrected by the beginning of 2002 production.

I'd recommend obtaining the serial numbers for both engines.... to see what information might be available.

That may help to narrow down the decision.
