I have a Optimax service manuel for Optimax and on the cover it says starting year 2000~~all specs inside show only 2000 and 2001. I may have bought it new in 2001 for my 01 Optimax, so my question is everything basically the same from 01 to 2012 on Optimax? If yes I will keep it, if I can't use it for my new 2012, I'll post it for sale.

There were a lot of changes in that time frame from year to year. I would look for the proper year for your motor. I am told that from 2003 on the changes were only minor.

Sorry to piggyback on this topic but it raises an interesting question, are the manuals year specific or do they cover a range of years? Would a manual from say, '01 cover general tasks on later years or would those have changed too?
What is the appropriate manual for my '09 Opti, sn1b722937? I bought a downloadable manual online, but it says "Starting year 2000 and sn og960500" so I have always wondered about using it.

Service manuals cover a specific range of "similar" design engines. Some manuals cover only one SPECIFIC engine.
In your case, either of the following manuals is appropriate:
8M0057453 (this is the latest, and would be my preferred choice)

Thanks Don, I'll have to order one of those from you. I'll use the one I have for my water pump replacement (thanks for the prompt delivery btw), I think that procedure is "general" enough.
