    trailer bounce

When towing (single axle trailer/ Procraft boat) whenever I hit uneven road surfaces or dips the trailer flexes and the tires squish if that makes sense.
The trailer bounced a few times where the transom safer actually shifted on the rear roller.
I dont exceed the speed limit and try to slow down if I see uneven roads to try to prevent this.
Tires are at maximum pressure of 50psi.

Is this normal for a single axle trailer?

    Do I need new springs?

    Re: trailer bounce (western angler)

Shocks only effect spring movement.. Tire squish wont benefit. I'd bet your rig is pushing the limits of the tire rating. Try and find a load range D tire. Many dont realize the the total weight these tires are carrying. Add all you have in the boat, plus gas, batts, troller, outboard motor, jackplate, hull, etc..... Then add the weight of the trailer as the tires carry that weight as well... Your trailer is probably 800+ more lbs.

What are you towing it with? Sometimes the suspension on the tow vehicle can have a big effect on how the trailer rides.

    Re: trailer bounce (21XDC)

I looked and noticed I dont have springs. Hmmm....guess I need to pay closer attention to what I have and look and see and not assume.

    Are the tires the "shocks"?

The tires are newer load range c, ST trailer tires. Brand is not a common brand.

The tow vehicle is a '07 F150 with the tow package.

Maybe I'm over reacting and it is what it is. I'm just not used to seeing a trailer bounce.

Some C rated 205/75-14s are only rated at 1300-1400 pounds, meaning if your rig weighs 3000 pounds including the trailer, fuel and all your gear, you are overloaded.

I can't imagine you don't have springs. What are your axles bolted to?

I have a torsion axle too and it rides better than spring trailers I have owned.

The bigger the load range "C" tires, the more weight they can carry... You should have 225/75/R14 ...

    Re: trailer bounce (21XDC)

My tires are 215/75/14 Rated C.
This is what the trailer sticker has printed on it so theses are the tires I bought when I got them last season.
The tires are rated at 1870 lbs and the trailer has a max weight of 2900lbs. GAWR of 3740 lbs with these tires listed above.

With the axel being designed the way it is it does what it needs to do to absorb the bumps and dips along with the tires.

I guess I need to look out the windshield more than looking in the mirror and being concerned about something I have no control of.

The first thing thats comes to mind when I hear trailer bounce is tongue weight. My single axle didn't have enough tongue weight causing it bounce when going over bumps. I unbolted my winch stand & moved it towards the tongue, moving the boat up further on trailer. It solved my problem.

Interesting you mention that. I did the same thing a few weeks ago. Moved the winched about 6" forward to get the boat beyond the rear bunk.

Can you go any further? How much tongue weight do you have? If you don't know, find out. Use a bathroom scale & a 4x4 under the coupler. It is suggested that tongue weight should be minimum of 10% & max of 15% of trailer gross weight.

Is it just a certain few stretches of road or what? Depending on which ramp I put in at, there are a certain couple of bridges where I have to slow down to ~40-45mph to keep the trailer from bouncing...it does fine fine on every other bridge even at ~70mph. I also have a few friends that have the same problem with their single-axle trailers.

On the highway not too bad. It's mostly driving on non-highway roads at lower speeds.
