bleeding a UFP A-60 brake system

OK I have no brakes on my 1998 Ranger trail with a UFP A 60 brake system. I blead the brakes tonight with a 1 person pump but could not get much fluid to bleed. It was like a trickle at best and took about 100 bleeds to get 80CC of fluid. I had the toung lower that the calipers and kept the master cylinger full. Should I have left the black master cylinder cap off maybe since when I removen it I heard a air excaping sound evert time I removed it to fill the fluid. I tried the brakes and still do not work. Can backup with no brake lockup and not wired to truck and aculaotr slides in 100% in every stop at 5mph. What am I doing wrong as they worked a few months ago.

I will try to see if the master cylinder will hold pressure tomarrow with a screw driver but could it be just the hand pumps cannot bleed this brake system

You can try bench bleeding the master cylinder first. Take the brake line off and stroke the pushrod, then put your finger over the hole where the brake line was and let it suck on your finger on the return stroke. If you do not develop pressure after repeating this process a few times, replace the master cylinder. Before installing the new master cylinder, you can use this method to bench bleed it before hooking the line up. Bleed uphill as you have been.

Thank you. I will have to try that. I found I did not have the lever pushed up for bleeding but after clamping the lever up I really was pressed for yime and did not get to try for long enough.
