What does the owners manual of the Envoy state the towing weight is??????? That is what you need to go by.
I tow a Pantera II with an 05 Trailblazer (6cyl 4.2L) and the 3.42 gear ratio. It tows it fine. But do a little research on your vehicle because to get that 6000 tow rating you have to have 3.73 gears. With the 3.42 the limit is 4100 approx. You would be real close to that with a 521.
You might make the 6K for weight for towing down the road but you might not like pulling it out of steep ramps. I would not do it, I'd be concerned about stopping it and handling at 70+mph. If all you are doing is going around the block to the rampl then maybe but I wouldn't do it with a V6 midsize sporty.
You can find Envoy's and Trailblazers w/ 5.3 Liter V8. Maybe trade for a bigger motor version of what you have?? I have the SS T-Blaze with a 6.0l and it tows the snot out of anything I've had on the back of it and know for sure the 5.3 would be a great puller too.. Buy the boat then go treat yourself to a new ride... :)
The nice thing about that inline 6 is that it provides great torque versus v6 applications. I've had 3 w/ inline 6's and have pulled over 6k with them. Brakes are not the shining point of the truck, but be mindful and you'll do just fine.
