I bled my brakes again..... Hmm?

When I bought my boat new in 2003, the brakes were ok but not great. I bled the brakes and whala! Brakes were awesome. This spring I noticed some banging on take off again and checked the fluid and the resevoir was empty. I filled and bled them again and whala! Great brakes.... Then I unplugged the lights, backed into a curb to pressurize the brake system... I crawled around looking for leaks w/o any found. I have no fluid on my garage floor. Where did the fluid go? I disconnect my tongue for the winter storage and 1 drop leaks is all. I will keep a better look in the resevoir, But wondered if my brake pads have worn enough to let the resivoir suck air. There is not many miles on my trailer.

Does your line run in the frame rail? If so it probably has rusted with small pin holes and bled inside the tube.

I thought of that, But it's still holding pressure it seams... pin holes will bleed out fast.

How much pad is left on your brakes? The master will use some fluid as the piston extends, but shouldn't have left it dry. If it is still holding pressure without bleeding off, you could have had a slight leak at the bleeder which may have evaporated as time went by. Obviously with the constant dunking of the calipers in the lake, I suspect any evidence would have been washed away without notice unless you were specifically looking for a leak at that time. If there was a leak in the nose of the trailer that doesn't get typically dunked, you would most likely see evidence of it there. You may have inadvertently fixed a leak at the bleeder when you bled the brakes and re-seaked them properly. Try not to leave your brakes pressurized for an extended period of time as this will leave the honed sleeve in the master cylinder subject to humidity and moisture and will quickly rust.

Thank you... I will keep a close eye on the fluid level. Not sure of the pad thickness... I will check... I unplugged the lights and can not back up, they lock up tight... Working great.
