Shocks absorbers on trailer

Why there is no absorbers on a trailer?

some fancy horse trailers and campers have them, but most don't.

Actually, there are some bassboat trailers that have both leafprings and shocks, but I cannot recall which ones...Legend maybe!

I think all bassboat trailers should have shocks. I dont care that nobody is riding in the boat. My trailer is my boats foundation/bed that I want the best ride for the hull. The boat spends 90% of it's life on the trailer, Why skimp on a 40-50K dollar rig? Better for the tires/rims/suspension etc...

Almost like the tire shops opinion.... No need to balance trailer tires since you won't feel it viberating anyway.

If it spins 70-75 mph, I will always have mine balanced.

In the 60s Hosclaw Trailers made in Indiana has coil springs and shocks. Best riding trailer you could ever have. They had a tilt bed and all rollers for hull support. They must have gone out of business because I've never seen one in many years.

That's a good idea when I get around to stripping and redoing my trailer I may add some shock absorbers to the axle. I never liked how bouncy it rode, always wondered how hard it was on the hull under there to have it bouncing around that much.

Exactly why I'm asking that question. I found funny that schocks absorbers are on all kind of equipment except under our $70.000 rig.

Ha well I dont have a fancy 70K rig (Hell both my truck and boat together arent worth half that much, back when they were both NEW!) But nevertheless fancy or poor man's boat, they are all made of the same materials and subject to the same fatigue fractures.

The only thing I've come up with that may be negative about the shock absorbers is that they do exert a large "shock load" over a bump that would transmit into the hull, whereas the leaf spring itself would absorb most all of that, and would slow the impact force down alot just by the compression of the spring, sort of how crumple zones in your car absorb alot of the force before it reaches the critical part, the passengers. And your boat is a passenger. So really, I think the RIDE would be much better in how it handles behind your truck, probably alot less bouncing and bucking. Just not sure now after thinking about it just how practical the shock absorbers would really be though as far as making the BUMPS easier on the hull. Maybe Im overthinking it though.....

Good point, But there are shocks with less pressure I bet... Car and truck suspension is so sophisticated these days, The ride and handling is so much better than years ago. Surly if you cant feel the bumps in the truck, Your boat could have the same ride.

Mines's got shocks. Have heard guys with lots of miles say they help with even tire wear and ride better on bumpy roads.

They are an option on Marine Master trailers and they really smooth out the ride. I had this trailer with shocks on my Phoenix and it was the best towing trailer I have ever owned. Went to Ranger and am disappointed in the ride of a Rangertrail.
