1st question is, do you have a single or dual axle trailer? 2nd, if you have a dual, are the tires blowing out both on the front axle or back axle or is it random?

I haven't had any problems with the marathons. How long did you have the tires? I thought those boats came with a 115. Could be a freak thing. Could have been to low air pressure, could have been to high air pressure. I know a couple of guys who had 19 ftrs and they started out with single axle trailers and switched to dual after a couple of blow outs. Just a thought.

check the side wall and see where they were made - Marathons were made in China for a while and there seemed to be many more problems reported after they moved production there. I believe the new ones are now made in the states again though.

I had two blow out within 5 days with Goodyear Marathons. My tires were two years old and had less than 3000 mile on each of them. I'm going to the tire shop to see if there is anything they can do. Will keep you posted.

What does your trailer and boat weigh compared to the rating on the tires? something doesn't sound right to have that many problems.

Re: anyone have problems with goodyear marathons (catchatoad)

I had one blow out on me in Louisville last year coming home from Kentucky Lake. Not sure what the deal was, I always check air pressure before any lengthy haul. The tires only had maybe 1000miles on them. The tread seperated from the casing, but the tire stayed up. It looked almost like a recap, but I know it wasn't.

My first set of Marathons lasted 7 years. They had a little cracking on the tread and repalced them with new Marathons 2 years ago. I keep the boat in a garage so sun doesnt get to them. That is the worst thing to do. If you guys that keep your boats with a cover on outside put a towel or garbage bag over the tires where the sun hits them, maybe that will help.

Catchatoad.......I have Marathons also and some of the Goodyear psi info is confusing but this is on the Goodyear website in regards to Marathons. I will paraphrase somewhat....most trailer tires with the "ST" label are max speed rated at 65 mph @ 50 psi. Now Goodyear says.....If you tow faster than 65 mph as you say you do then they recommend an additional 10 psi or 60 psi MAXIMUM!

Had two go bad within a month earlier this year. One had a knot develop where the sidewall meets the tread, noticed it while checking the air pressure before a trip. The other one must have had a belt separate in it, kind of humped up in one area causing a bad wobble in the tire. Luckily I didn't have a blowout since I didn't notice this one until almost home on the second of two 100 mile round trips.

same thing here. two big knots that are connected popped up. They stick up nearly an inch. These tires are right at 4 years old and still have the "tits" on them. Got a set of Carlisle 8 ply on order at about half the cost.

Re: anyone have problems with goodyear marathons (dirtmonkey)

I have had Goodyear tires on cars and trucks since 1972 (came with them) and have had problems with every set. Goodyear wont warranty nothing. Now I find them on my trailer, I am in process of replaceing the wheels with aluminum alloy ones. Looks like I will be replaceing the tires also, Its a shame they only have 1000 miles on them but I dont trust them.
