    Injector cleaning......Must read!!!

I wanted to let everyone know about my experience with Don Weed and my injector cleaning!

I have a 1998 Mariner 225 EFI that had never had the reeds replaced or the injectors cleaned. I recently took the intake off the motor and sent my injectors to Don for cleaning. I got the following email from Don last night informing me of the progress.

"I pre-ran your injectors this morning, and have had them in the cleaner ALL day today. TERRIBLE set (almost like pulling one injector from six different motors).

Three injectors are within flow tolerances, three are VERY critically low flow.

I'm going to work with them (and some service swap injectors) to come up with a complete set that accurately match, and are within flow range.

I'll probably be in touch tomorrow (when finished)."

I was blown away that the injectors were this bad and extremely grateful that the motor didn't blow up due to critically low flow of fuel and oil.

I got a call today from Don with some good news!!! He was able to continue cleaning the injectors and brought the ones that were out of spec to within tolerances! He found that a few injectors were flooding badly at idle and some were very lean at WOT!!! He also said that this set was the worst he had seen in a while.

I can't wait to get these things back in the motor to see what she will do now. I have been suffering from sluggish holeshot and loss of top speed and Don said that this motor should really wake up now!

I encourage anyone who has not taken the time to have their injectors cleaned by Don....GET IT DONE NOW BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!!! For me it was only a matter of time until my out of spec injectors caused a catastrophic engine failure.

    Thanks Don!!!

Do you have any pictures of the injectors before and after? What about a pic of the debris that came out of them?

Pictures of the injectors won't be of much benefit... of course, externally, they would appear very clean.

It's the INTERIOR (and pintle) of the injector that's most critical. Spray pattern quality, and flow rates are the most useful means of determining that.

Seems like there are lots of us out there. Don had said mine were the worst he had ever seen on a running engine. Hope someone else takes that award from me. I had Don do my injectors and purchased some CCR reeds from him and ran it the other day. All I can say is that boat JUMPED on plane. Dont know if the reeds or the injector cleaning or both made such a difference, but damn man, that thing sure seems to have lots more power!!! Thanks Don and CCR.

I'll show my ignorance here...are there any general guidelines regarding when you should begin to think about injector cleaning or replacing the reeds?

    This is per Don:

    Re: Injector cleaning......Must read!!! (rpr)

Had Don service mine last year but i only have a couple hours run time on it (working too much). But if i was able to fish like i use to i would pull them every two years. It creeps up on you slowly so you may not be able to tell there is a problem till it's too late.
Couple hundred now or 20,000 later.

It's not just a dirty injector that will get you, the electrical parts will go out. Don found one of mine that would go lean and sometimes just stop working when they got up to operating temp's.

Did you have a notable increase in performance with properly running injectors?

I did reeds and had Don go thru the injectors at the same time, My boat now leaps out of the hole. I never thought it lacked power to begin with, but now I hardly have any bow rise at all and she just flat gets it! I would have to say I see a huge difference.

Don's a great guy and does great work. Getting your injectors cleaned/serviced and new reeds will improve performance and noticeable improvements at idle.
