    15" shaft for 250xs

    Hi,
Does anybody know if there is a short shaft available for the 250xs? I know mad efi has one for the 300x but I haven't found anything for the 250 or 300xs.

    Thanks!

    /Daniel

    Re: 15" shaft for 250xs (Amund201)

    Daniel:

    Mercury doesn't offer the 250XS or 300XS in a 15" shaft version.

It is "possible" to do, utilizing MAD EFI's components, or if you have it "custom" modified.

However... in either case, be aware that you would need to be willing to accept the results (both good and bad, including liability).

Re: 15" shaft for 250xs (EuropeanAM)

    Thanks for the reply Don,

With the 20" leg the engine comes up pretty high and a good portion of the mounts are above the transom as it's mounted on a lift. I'm worried that it puts a lot extra strain on the transom when I'm driving in ruff sea conditions.

Do you know anybody with a Mad Efi midsection on an XS engine, would be good to hear about other people's experiences

Also be aware that you lose some trim leverage. So if you go short shaft, you need to be well balanced front to rear on the pad, and not need positive trim to run best.

Thanks for the tip I think she is pretty god balanced, only using small amounts of positive trim. But as you can see on the pic the engine sits high, or am I wrong?

That's a little on the high side.... but I honestly don't think that setup is going to benefit from a 15" shaft conversion (JMHO).
