Just Bought SS Trailblazer ... Can i pull a boat with this?

Alright guys ... I probably should've gotten the avalanche or tahoe but i didn't ... I got an SS Trailblazer ... Heavy Duty Tranny, Brakes, 400hp 400 torques ...

    Here's my question ... i used to pull my 20' boat with a 2004 trailblazer inline 6cyl ...

Obviously the extra duty tranny and extra 125 horses of the ss will help ... the ss trailblazer is an inch lower inride height than my other trailblazer ... shoud l i get an inch lift on the ball?

Basically, the ss trailblazer is not the smartest choice for towing vehicle ... how can i adjust this ride to make it acceptable ... would a 1" lift be my first bet ... also shoudl i get a tranny cooler and if so will it void warranty?

I love my new truck i just don't want to be the fool who should be towing weith something else so any advice on adjusting my ss TBlazer for towing performance would be welcomed!

I don't know what the tow capacity is, but I would think you would be fine. As far as the lift, just make sure the trailer is level. If it isn't, then get a hitch that makes it level.

Check your manual...most of the special rigs like the SS models AREN'T rated for towing much more than 2000 lbs.

This is due to the lowered suspension, NOT lack of power.

The sticker says it has the sport, road course tuned suspension, awd. 4.10 limited slip,6.0 390 hp &400 ft lb torque, Heavy duty trailering package and 4 spd. Super duty trans. My big concern would be ride quality for such a short wheelbase vehicle and it's ability to stop.......there is NO doubt it'll pull it.

I had a TrailBlazer [ not the SS ] with the 6 cyl.Towed my Skeeter 21i for about a month and it didn't take long to figure out the trailblazer wasn't going to last towing a heavy boat in the Northeast.Too many hills and mountains and the gas mileage
    was terrible.

6800 lbs 2wd 6600 awd. Heavy duty everything and the best brakes they're are. Great shocks and tires are fine. You have a awsome tow vehicle and street performer as well. ..

Look for a tow bar the puts the ball at 18-19" top of ball or do some measuring on level ground to get the rigth hitch mount.

    See review. http://www.trucktrend.com/road....html

Street trucks tow just fine. I lowered mine, Bilstein shocks and 22" it tows and handles better than stock. Put the best brake pads and rotors I could and it will stop on a dime.

Thanks kindly everyone, I researched when I bought the truck, it seemed to pass the sniff test but again it isn't the first choice but aside from shorter wheelbase I imagine she'll drive nicely. and StratosDad, awesome rims bro ... who makes those, those are sick ... I'm picky, everyone has rims nowadays and most of them suck, you my friend have some of the nicest rims I've seen.

If your going to tow long distances very much (over 100 miles) then a tranny cooler would be a wise investment if it doesnt already have one, if thats not in the budget keep a good eye on the tranny maybe put a temp gauge on the tranny if nothing else.

Unfortunately no stock tranny cooler ... Will one void warranty?

i have the silverado ss,your truck has the same equipment as mine.if you were towing with regular trailblazer, this will do just fine.i wouldnt worry about the height much.just make sure the trailer is level.

You need to find out the gross vehicle weight rating of your trailblazer and be absolutely certain the weight of your boat, your trailblazer, and all contents of boat and truck, including passengers, do not exceed your GVWR. You could load it as you typically would and you should take it to a public scale to be certain you are within your vehicle's limitations if you have any question at all.

The TrailBlazer SS has a tow rating of 6800 lbs 2WD and 6600 lbs AWD. i'm guessign your 20' boat is a typical bass boat, that weighs 3500-4000lbs

Re: Just Bought SS Trailblazer ... Ca ... (contemporary485)

I had an '03 SS Silverado for a bit as my test n tune vehicle for work. I had a magie supercharger re-geared with some rather large injectors to cool down the CC. I dynoed it at 620 rwhp @ 10.1 psi of boost and the front driveshaft removed. I towed some really big boats with it, I would not worry a bit. I would however be leerie of the transmision, I believe you have the 4L65E in there and I toasted like 3 or 4 in less than half a year!!!

See if GM offers a cooler that will not void your warranty, if not I would for sure be installing an aftermarket and adding a little fluid. One added bonus of this is the extra fluid allows more heat removal from the system along with the temp drop across the cooler. I will not run any late model tranny w/o one. That said, I also run a fan on mine since these newer vehicles have e-fans you need something cooling the fluid when you are moving too slow for the H value across the radiator to be effective.
