Trailer Tire wear

I have a 186 Champion with a single axle trailer. The tires are just under 3 years old and have about 10,000 miles on them (estimated). The tires are wearing evenly except for the outside edge. The outside edge is pretty worn on both sides. I keep them aired up around 46 pounds (50 lbs Max cold). The tires are Hiway Master ST 205 / 75 R 15. Most of the miles driven to my lakes are on mountain roads with lots of curves...not much freeway mileage (probably 25%). Anything I am doing wrong?

I think you are fine, but you do need to keep them at the max PSI (50 lbs).

I have a 201DC Champ on a single axle and it does the same thing. I was told I need to run a 8 ply trailer tire right now I run 4 ply good year marathon's. Its always the outside edges but normally just one about 1ft 1/2 section more than the rest. Trailer was made by Trailers Inc.

I'll take the advise and keep them a 50 PSI. Is an 8 ply tire really necessary? Seems like a lot of tire for an 18' boat. Does anyone know if the outside wear cause separation? I run 65 and up every time I can.

Man I dont know,I cant believe my boat only has a single axle. My 3 uncles all went the same day and bought 3 201 dc's in 1989 and the one I got off one of them is the only one that wasnt tandem. It eats up tires like crazy a set last me about 1 and half years. My bro has a triton and still has factory tires from 2000. Can these things be aligned ?

I've often wondered about this. Would most of you agree that whatever PSI is recommended on your particular trailer tire you should maintain the maximum psi? Thanks in advance for the advice.

My marathons are load rate c which is 6 ply,
but if you read side of tire closley 2 ply sidewalls
4 ply tread.To me sidewalls take more abuse.

I've been told that it depends on what type axle you have. The trailers with a solid axle can be aligned by actually bending the axle much like the front end on the old Ford trucks from the 60's and early '70's with the twin I-Beam suspension. Unfortunately, not many alignment shops have that type of equipment anymore but you can often still find one if you look around.

My understanding is that there is no good way to align torsion axles.

Not enough weight on the axles...UFP puts 1 dgree of positive camber tin the beam so when the weight of the boat is on the trailer, the camber should be at zero. Try adding some weight...

I would think that a almost 21 foot boat 225 3.0 and tourny loaded all the time on a single axle would be far enough weight, most these size come w/ a tandem. Lyn, dont make me have to tell my wife that I have to go buy more plastic to add weight to my boat in order to save money on trailer tires in the long run. Or wait YES DO TELL ME THAT lol [IMG][/IMG]

yes...always keep the tires inflated to the stated psi on the tire...

I see some wear on the inside too, and a little cupping...the wear is from low tire pressure, the cupping comes from the tire being a little out of balance...

EZ loader trailer/single axle/st75r14 tires/steel rims.
Air pressure ALWAYS 50 psi while trailering(calibrated, liquid filled,
nascar certified tire gauge)
Winter-boat is on stands tires 20 psi.
20 foot glass boat with heavy a$$ opti on back.
Axle has been checked/aligned.
Still outer tire wear.
I bolted 2x3x3/8 angle iron from spring u bolt to u bolt.
Is axle part of trailer flex?
Is this too much pressure on springs?
Helped it or hurt it?
