EZ Loader Trailer - Excessive Tire Wear on outside edge of right side tire

Do we have a EZ Loader Rep on BBC? There have been several posts for excessive tire wear on the outside edge of the right side tire on EZ Loader Trailers. In previous posts people have suggested balancing the tires, checking trailer camber, replacing the axle. I measured wheel to wheel at several points and the axle is square. The bearings run true, and I replaced the tire and wheel with the spare and it still wears. There is no damage to the trailer and the tire pressure is correct. Did anyone ever figure this one out? Is this problem specific to only the EZ Loader trailers supplied to Skeeter?

Right rear tire WEARING OUT on the outside edge,, while rest of tire looks like 80%-90% tread.
    Left side minor wearing.
Checked axle for square from three different points on both sides.
Running 50 lbs pressure as stated by tire.
Marathon st 215r14 with steel wheels/EZ loader trailer.
    Original owner of trailer.
Don't see any thing bent or broke.
Measured from side to side on rear of tire and front of tire, measures almost perfect .
1/16 out, opposite way of my thinking.(Front wider)
Can Axle be bowed or bent?
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks chris

I wouldn't call 3 or 4 posts are "several" , UFP builds several thousand axles for EZ Loader annually. The right side is the curb side of the trailer and it is the side that usually hits a curb or something else to put them out of camber, also, if you jack up the trailer by putting the jack under the axle, this can bend the beam and put it out of camber. Call around to Frame & Alignmet shops to have it checked out, most can bend them back into camber for about $100.

The right side of my trailer is the "pivot" side.

When I back into the ramp I drive down then put it in reverse and pivot on the right side to line up to the ramp.

When I back into the driveway I drive past it, then back up while turning tight to the right side.

Think about how the inner tires turn in a smaller area then the outer which turns in a wider arc.

    Still looking in to it.
Have a friend who aligns tires coming to look at it.
Will post when I find something out.

Re: EZ Loader Trailer - Excessive Tire Wear on outside e ... (Lyn O. Dyer)

Lyn, I only re-posted a couple EZ Loader Trailer issues, but there are several more problems with these trailers listed here on BBC. If you search tire wear EZ Loader Trailers is the primary common factor to most issues. Even my dealer said that it is common for the EZ Loader Trailers to have tire wear problems. I have had seven - maybe eight trailers from various manufacturers and have never had a two year old tire to wear slick on the outside edge. I have not hit anything, I keep the tires at the proper pressure, and if the axle is so cheap that jacking up the trailer to change the tire warps it then the trailer is the problem. Are you our EZ Loader Rep, or can you put us in touch with someone that is interested in resolving the issue?

Spoke with Larry today at EZ Loader Trailers. He said that he has seen this type of issue a lot with the EZ Loader brand of bass boat trailers and of course it is not covered under the factory warranty. He said that he recommends all these type problems to local auto body frame shops to see if they can fix it - at the owners expense. Apparently, bent axles is a common issue with the EZ Loader Trailer right from the factory, and everyone has come to both expect and accept it as the norm. Poor quality supported by poor service. Skeeter could do far better than EZ Loader for both quality and service.

Really pounding the boards aren't you.

I see you are slamming on the Skeeter boards too.

Lyn is a stand up guy and EZ loader is a quality company. If you have an issue that they can help you with I am sure they will.

This board if for people to come and ask questions about trailers and towing, so of course you will have people that are trying to get an issue under control. EZ loader is a very common trailer for Bass boats and will discussed frequently. By saying that you read about EZ loader problems on this board it is like going to the doctors office and wondering why there are sick people.

I don't work for EZ loader, I don't have any affilation with them other than that's whats under my boat. I had an issue {not caused by EZ loader} and Lyn and the other rep {sorry, forgot his name } could not have been more helpful.

You don't seem to be looking for solutions, you seem to want to grind an axe.

Most common tire wear issues are caused by under inflation, I see this alot. Steve, isnt there a post with pictures /drawings of tire wear issues and what causes them on here, I can fax one to you if you need...

Kicker-fish, you said you're running 50PSI as stated on tire. I've been around bass boats for many years and sell them at the largest Skeeter dealer on the planet. I saw something posted last night on another forum and it was the first I've ever heard of this. I bet it's news to most here also.

Goodyear says that ST rated tires are to be filled to 10 PSI over what is stamped on the tire if you plan on towing at over 65 mph. Here's a link for those that are interested. How often have you been told to air your tires to 60 PSI? Me? never!

Re: EZ Loader Trailer - Excessive Tire Wear on outside e ... (K.D.)

Whoa....... 60 psi? You are right, this is the first time I have heard that. I do tend to get a little over 65 mph at times.

Steve, No ax to grind. Just looking for answers. My trailer was defective right from the factory, has destroyed two tires, and the manufacturer is of no help. I went to two Auto Body frame shops and the lowest estimate to fix the axle was $275 with no guarantee that it will work. One suggested that I just buy an aftermarket axle and replace it myself. In his words, the after-marker axles are far better than the cheap ones used by EZ Loader and they are only $150.

Re: EZ Loader Trailer - Excessive Tire Wear on outside e ... (kicker-fish)

My name is Larry Barker and I am the Customer Service Supevisor for EZ Loader Custom Division. I've read several things in this post that I feel need to be addressed. First and formost, we at EZ Loader firmly believe we build the best boat trailer on the market and do stand behind our product. I've read some posts on this forum stating that we do not believe the customers and will not stand behind our product, not just on alignments but on paint and other issues. To clarify our warranty, EZ Loader will warranty any item for defective workmanship for 2 years from date of purchase or three years from date of manufacture. Defective workmanship does not include damaged items. Earlier in this post, it was stated that I said alignment issues were a common problem on EZ Loader trailers. This is simply not the case. No more than saying that since auto manufacturers cover alignments for 12 months, they have a problem with it also. EZ Loader Custom Trailers produces about 10000 to 12000 trailers per year. With our warranty being what it is, there are an estimated 20000 to 36000 trailers of our make in service at any given time. Of these trailers I receive calls to ask questions on tire wear about 20-30 times in a year. Of the 20-30 phone calls, about 60% of the calls turn out to be tires running at 35-40psi (this will definatly cause wear). The other 40% are actually bent axles. We do our best to try to help each and every customer we can, but sometimes an item is just not warranty. Not kicker-fish, Lyn and I have discussed your case. We are going to help you. You will be contacted by either Lyn or myself.
As for the other comments on this forum. When paint issues come up, we do request that pictures of the areas come up. We will base warranty decisions on the pictures we receive.
If any of you have any questions or concerns about your EZ Loader trailer, I'm available Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm central time. My phone number is 1-800-553-7855 ext. 239.

    Sincerely,
    Larry Barker

Re: EZ Loader Trailer - Excessive Tire Wear on outside e ... (LarryBarker)

Lyn Dyer followed up with me as stated. I was told by my boat dealer that my problem was a tire issue. I was told by the trailer manufacturer that my problem was not covered by the warranty. Lyn put this aside and took full ownership of the issue. He worked with me personally to ensure the problem was correctly identified and resolved. If you have a problem with your EZ Loader Trailer then Lyn is the very first person you need to contact.

I have to take responsibility for not bringing this issue to the trailer manufacturer's attention when it first happened. I showed the strange tire wear to my boat dealer the first year and I believed his false diagnosis that it was a tire issue. Only after destroying the second tire did I become concerned enough to contact EZ Loader. I was past my 2 year warranty at that point.

If you have any questions or concerns about any component on your EZ Loader trailer then give Lyn a call.

Please do not contact Lyn for problems with your EZ Loader Trailer. Lyn works for UFP not EZ Loader. Although we work closely together on many shared parts, EZ Loader handles it's own warranty.

I have an E-Z Load trailer, that came with a 2000 boat I purchased last spring. I needed some replacement parts, and bearings, races etc. They were great to deal with. The one thing I was most impressed with them was when I was on their web site, I noticed a recall on trailer leaf springs. I looked at my trailer and it had mono leaf springs on it, and the recall was to replace the mono springs with multi-leaf. I called Larry, gave him some info, then in about 3 or 4 days, the springs and everything I needed was at my door. The phone call to Larry was about 2 minutes. Great people to deal with !!!!!
