    Aluminum trailers

It is time for bass boat trailers to be made from aluminum. I have a champion bay boat that is 5 years old. The trailer looks and works like it did from day one. Believe me this trailer has been dipped in saltwater a couple hundred times. The cost of an aluminum trailer is about the same as he fancy painted ones that all rust.

    Re: Aluminum trailers (iron banks)

No arguments here. I have never put any boat that I own in salt water. But, the steel trailers all rust eventually, even when only used in fresh water.

I'm sure the manufacturers wouldn't like the idea though. The trailer starting to show wear is just another excuse that we can use to convince ourselves that we NEED a NEW boat.
They want us to have all the excuses we can possibly have.

    Re: Aluminum trailers (looking4five)

I guess I am just irritated that I am going to have to replace my bass boats trailer pretty soon. I will be going with an aluminum one for about 3K plus tax. The guy I bought this boat from had the trailer refurbished a year ago and I can see it has maybe a two years max before failure will be at hand. It is just a pain in the azz to have to deal with a break down on the side of the road. When someone pays 50K for a new bass boat the trailer should go the life of the boat. Now if the could only figure out how to make the engines go the life of the boat

I have heard that they guy that makes the Snyder Boats has been doing aluminum trailers for a couple of years. I agree that boat trailers should be made of aluminum, even if it was a little extra you could save that in gas.
