Adding Back Up Lights

Getting ready to add back up lights to my trailer. This is what I have.
7 pin receptacle on truck....2005 F-150.......4 way flat plug on boat trailer connected to a universal plug to fit the truck receptacle.
Trailer does not have back up lights.
Will I need to install a 5 way flat plug on the trailer and run another wire to run the back up lights? The back up lights have a white and a red wire. Should I assume the red is for power and the white grounds to the trailer?

Correct - you'll need to get a Flat-5 connector for the trailer and an appropriate adapter. The blue wire from the Flatt-5 will connect to the red wire on your backup lights.

There MAY be another connection you need on a Ford - I don't have one but seem to remember there is a jumper you have to add.

The center pin should be wired to the reverse lights on the tow vehicle. You can test the pin when the truck is put into reverse. The 7 to 5 adaptor isolate this pin and will plug into the five flat you install on the trailer.
