    Skeeter trailer repair

Hello and good day everybody. I have a Skeete bassboat with a tandem trailer and it appears that I am need of repair on the side bunks that are located on the inside of the fenders. looks like it is just marine plywood wrapped in carpet. the wood has started to rot and the carpet is pulling away where the screws go through. had anybody replaced these and did they use the plywood or come up with a handy alternative? did anybody replace these while the boat is still on the trailer. was thinking if I can get them off , would replace the screws with stainless steel bolts and nuts instead of the crews as there is not a lot of room between hull and boards to secure them on there. would be great if there was a way to buy these already cut but I have a feeling it does not exist. appreciate the help you all can provide.

    Re: Skeeter trailer repair (flatstick)

I recently had mine replaced. I got the bunks, carpet and screws from EZ Loader (Leona Kerns). Since I was having some work done on my motor, I elected to let the marine dealer replace the fender bunks. They chose to take the boat off the trailer.

It may be possible to do without taking boat off trailer, but access to screw heads is going to be difficult, and if you twist one off and have to drill it out, it is going to be much more difficult.

Thanks for the info on your recent bunk replacement. figured it would be easier with the boat off the trailer. did you call EZ Loader directly for the parts ? if they had the fender bunks already pre cut it would make the job a lot easier and I could just repair it at the ramp after I am done fishing and before I put the boat back on. thanks for the help so far.

I replaced mine last year. I removed the wheels to get to the screws. Removed the carpet from one board and used it for a template.

Picked up a sheet of 1/2" treated plywood, gray marine carpet and adhesive from Lowe's. I glued the carpet to the boards and used stainless staples to secure the edges.

Screwed the back on the trailer with stainless wood screws. They turned out really good and look factory. No problem doing it with the boat on the trailer.

So you got most of the stuff you needed for m Lowe's then ? was curious if you applied an type of sealant as we all know how wet their wood is when they get it. was planning on possible just using the carpet that is on there over again, since it is in nice shape.

Well here is the update on my fender bunk replacement. called Ez Loader and they do not have my exact bunks as a replacement, would either need some welding or modifying of my diamondplate step tried to work on removing the bunks with just the tires off and on the first screw the head snapped off. looks like I am going to have to do this with the boat off the trailer. wish I had a template so I could cut the wood and have it all ready to go.
