    Sportmaster performance VS Torquemaster

Im running a Sporty with 1.75 gears, i know i dont need it as i dont need to run my mtr that high to benefit from it. I know its just more drag due to the design.

My question is how much will it hurt my speed compared to a Torquemaster?
What gains could one expect? 1-2mph?

I know this lower works well and is dependable, but im needing to swap to gain some more speed.

    Collin:

I'd be very surprised if you didn't GAIN speed running a Torquemaster. It provides greater LIFT, and is a more suitable choice for this boat/engine combination.

Re: Sportmaster performance VS Torquemaster (Cheatham200)

I havent had time to mees with the plate, and i havent measured the prop to pad since install.

Running a 25 Trophy, Full load with partner and live wells full, and 42 gallons of fuel. me @180lb, partner @230lb.

    5900-6000 Rpms @ 71-72MPH GPS speeds.

Prop is not perfect either, so i could gain some there as well.
Im told a worked 27 Tempest is what i need for top end, but the trophy is all i got at the moment.
Im looking for a good tempest though.

Unless something in your setup changes (correct gearcase, engine height, boat weight)- moving to a 27 Tempest will DECREASE your top end RPM's.

You'll essentially be LUGGING the engine.

For that particular boat and motor setup a TM gear case and 27P tempest is the most common.

The sporty offers very little lift and added drag. You will have an 80mph rig light if you ditch that sporty and get a TM and set it up and drive it right.

Collin if you get rid of the sportmaster, and get the torquemaster... try a 25 or 26 fury... you will see significant gain all over the place.

Re: Sportmaster performance VS Torquemaster (ThunderCat)

Ive ran both gear cases for many years. I dont understand why you would be running a Sportmaster on that hull but as said above, if you want to reach the full potential of that rig, you need a TM. Nice hull by the way.

Well that makes sense. Theres a fairly good market for Sportmaster gearcases on some of the high performance boating sites.
