    Lost his blood trail...

Shot a real good buck last night let him lay for about 3 hrs then got out to track him.Found blood and tracked him for about 200yrds, good blood most of the way,but it was just really red and even found a piece of bone one time about 6 inches long. Then all of the sudden it stopped nothing, like he just flew off. Circled around for about another 100yrds and never found him or anymore blood. Thinking i shot in in the front leg, do you think he will die from this, I'm thinking not?? Going looking again wednesday morning!!

What shape was the bone? Was it rounded like a leg bone or more flat like it could have come from his shoulder. Shoulder, you might find him. Leg, he'll go forever and might die next week.

BTW Anytime I've seen a good blood trail suddenly stop it was because he took a sharp (90 degree) turn and went a direction I didn't expect.

Really bright red has to come from somewhere highly oxygenated. Brisket maybe if you are sure you hit him in the front leg..they'll bleed like a lung shot when hit there and run forever..if you went thru front leg and smashed it it may have went thru brisket. Could you tell if he had ever layed down...that would tell you a lot if you know what to look for as to where you hit him at...

My son shot one in the brisket a couple years ago. The deer went about 1000-1200 yards before expiring.
