1989 EVINRUDE XP150 OIL injection REMOVAL

I need a little help guys. My brother-in-law bought his first bass boat today and was wanting me to go over the motor (1989 Evinrude XP150) with him and check lower unit seals, compression check and so forth. He told me that the oil injection was still hooked up and it was the original oil injection unit. He also stated that he was considering removing the oil injection and just mixing it on his own. I told him I knew that people had done this but, not sure if it is a simple unhook and cap where the oil is injected in. Can anyone give me the specifics????

Remove the oil line from the pump, disconnect the wires from the pump, disconnect the wires from the oil tank, Mix fuel in tank 50:1........1 pint of oil to 6 gallons of gas.

You should be able to trace the oil line as it comes into the motor, the wires from the pump will have a plug with 3 or 4 wires and you can trace them from the small end of the pump to the left side of the motor (standing from behind).
The oil tank wires will also be on the left side, trace them from the tank.

With that said, you could spend 270 bucks and upgrade the system to a new OMS pump.

Rusty, After removing the Oil line do I plug the line or unhook it from the motor and cap that off? I didn't think I would want to leave him with an open ended line. How hard is it to convert to the new OMS pump?

Plug the line and cap the nozzle on the pump.

There is nothing to updating to the OMS pump, you just swap it out.
