    Food for Thought

Check this out. Ran into it by accident. Optimax on jet fuel.

Seldom thought about in these circles.... but a wonderful engine for the Military Applications (when out of the country... there's really no guarantee of fuel quality... or that gasoline is even available).

That engine will run on "almost" anything flammable (within reason)... and is definitely quite impressive.

Averages out around 200hp... with most any common fuel suitable (diesel, jet fuel, gasoline, etc). And... it can accomodate changes to fuel almost immediately.

Whats the price tag on one of those and do they turn the same amount of RPM's as conventional Optimax? Does performance and RPM's vary with the fuel that is supplied?

They sound tough and near bullet proof!

Its basically the same engine from what I read. But I wonder if the diesel version gets 30% better then a gas optimax. I also am curious if it gets the same performance. If so seems like there would be a market for it.

And we get the 10% ethanol clause.

This is a "government only" engine (not available to the general public). Specifically designed for Military applications.

Performance varies to some extent based on fuel being utilized... averages out to "roughly" equal to a Standard 200 Optimax in performance (perhaps slightly below in some cases).

Although it's essentially similar to a standard Optimax, there are some substantial differences... internal, external, and ELECTRICAL. The addition of a "knock" system is just one example (allowing timing compensation for changing fuels).

    Interesting stuff....

What makes it a "government" engine only??? Just curious.

Designed SPECIFICALLY for the military, and sold only to Government Agencies.

Since we are the "government", I guess that's us, or did the constitution change somewhere along the line?
