    300 Promax questions

I'm looking at buying a 2000 model Mercury 300 promax. I currently have an 01 225efi mercury on my boat and on average use a quarter of a tank of gas fishing. I know the 300 is gonna be bad on gas but was wondering how much worse. I'm wanting to get a bigger motor to push my 21'10" bullet faster. The promax has about 250 hours on it and 120# of compression across the board any ideas about what they sell for? I don't know anything about these motors other than their supposed to be fast and just wanted to ask some questions to make sure I wasn't getting something I'd regret.

Do you happen to have a SERIAL NUMBER for the 300 ProMax?

You can often get "general" value ideas from using: http://www.nada.com (consumer side, boats, outboard motors).

    Serial# OG980708
I was just wanting a little info on one. I've decided its the motor I want and the deal is right just don't know much bout these motors. I'm assuming 93 octane gas minimum, and the same general maintinence as my 225EFI motor, and no less than 10psi on the water pressure. Also is this motor compatable with the Smart Craft stuff from Mercury?

Relatively similar to your 225 EFI. This is an earlier design 300, with the older-style 4-butterfly intake.

Expect it to have a strong thirst for 91+ octane fuel.

Also expect very strong performance, however.

    NOT Smartcraft compatible.

Thanks Don performance is the main thing. I don't have to run far to anywhere I fish so I should be ok.

IF you run the same speeds then you may get a little better then the 225 but I am sure you will NOT be able to do that. LOL
