deer hunting w/ an ar-15

I've shot wounded deer with my department issued M-4 when the deer would not let me get within pistol range. It can be done, but I'd really look at a larger caliber than a .223/ 5.56 mm. Some states have minimum calibers for deer hunting, so check you local regulations.

Now my idea of the ultimate semi-auto SHTF/ deer rifle would be an AR-10 (.308 caliber). That would be a sweet gun!!!

it was leagal starting last yr here in tn.but i'm not gonna hunt with that small cal.30/30 is small as i go good brush gun,and around here there's alot of brush lol.just wondering couldn't justify the ar-15,and when i called twra no restrictions on clip capacity

I use an AR in 6.5 Grendel, I use the 125 grain nosler partition.

They are legal here in Ky. but I don't think I would use one. I like a bigger chunk of lead for taking down deer. Mag capacity here is 10 in mag and 1 in the chamber. Any centerfire rifle is legal.

If I was to use an AR, It would be the AR-10 as well

It would be bare minimum as far as I'm concerned. Use a fast twist rate (1:7) and the 69 to 80 gr Partitions. They wont stabilize in the slower (1:14) twist that most .223's come in.

AR-10 and 450 Bushmaster both will get the job done.

if you bought it in .308, you could use it where i hunt. the .223 wouldn't be legal
