Bleeding the oil system in my Optimax

My 2007 225 Opti was put into service in Nov 2010. I now have 32 hrs on it and it has been in the shop 3 times to bleed the oil system and it looks like I will have to do it again. Each time I have come back to the ramp turning a steady 4900-5000 rpm for about a mile and when I bring it down off plane the alarm goes off. It's getting a little embarrassing. any ideas?

Make sure that all your caps and hoses on the remote oil tank are tight and have good seals. A leak there can keep it from filling the engine tank.

The BEST means of addressing this is to PRESSURE TEST the entire oiling system. This can be done with a gearcase pressure tester (at NO MORE THAN 9 psi) by disconnecting the pressure hose from the crankcase pressure check valve, and connecting the pressure tester to the hose.

NO drop in pressure should be noted over 15 minutes. If pressure drops- start looking for leaks (soapy water sprayed on hoses, connections, caps, tank, etc can be helpful).

If no leaks are noted, there's usually one of the following at play:

-Remote oil tank level below 1/3 (allowing air to enter the line in rough operation)
-Remote oil tank pickup screen restricted
-Inline filter in oil line restricted
    -Crankcase Pressure Check Valve faulty
-"Tee" check valve on engine (near oil tank) faulty.

I'd like to add that the best stuff I've ever used to look for air leaks is the stuff you buy the kids to blow bubbles with........not kidding, it'll show you leaks the a regular dish soap and water mix won't......I've been there and done that. Best buck you'll ever spend.

Re: Bleeding the oil system in my Optimax (EuropeanAM)

this boat/motor was a demo so it had 13hrs on it when I got it. I ran it about 2 hrs before it happened the 1st time. Oil tank was completely full. Dealer took care of it along with some other small things. The 2nd time I took it back in and they"fixed it" but didn't know what caused it. 3rd time I bled it myself on the ramp, and that's a bad way to start the day with a new boat. I'm going to bleed it myself one more time and then I'm going to drop it off at the dealer. Thanks everyone
