    I need some motivation..

whats up guys? for any of you all who know me know i take my fishing as serious as i possibly can, i use to do the same with hunting and still try to. i have always went at everything i do full force with max effort no matter what i do. Last year i had a hard time coming off the lake but still went and stayed on some deer, ended up killing a nice pope. all i do is bowhunt, so gun hunting is not an option. this year ive been hunting a few times, something just isn't there. i love it, i know when i get mr. big in my sights it'll be there.....i hope , but for example, i had two bucks underneath for over 2 hours, i never got nervous, never got that feeling that i use to even when a doe came out. what i am saying is this, i can hunt or fish every morning. my desire isn't there right now..will it be? anyone else go through this? im tired of killing mediocre deer 130s is bout as big as they come in this area. maybe i need that one big big buck to come out, iono. what do i do, any suggestions??

Take someone out with you that has never had the chance to hunt or fish, or that can't do it well alone anymore.

If the excitement for you has gone out of the sport (sounds like it has or is), then take someone else out to let them experience the thrill, and just maybe, you will share in their joy enough that yours finds its' way back home.

Hey,guy its the same for us all,if we have two passions,I always have to just put up my boat for the winter and say to myself its stored now.?Now it's time to deer hunt.I also do alot of my own work on all my hunting stuff,so it's alot more than just hunting for me,I also love messing with all the equipment. But I have taken a really big book buck when i was younger and was really focused on big deer only. But now I really would just rather see 8 and 10 pointer's all i can.makes deer hunting alot funner and way more action packed for me.Hunting big buck's can be hard work,so now I just hunt and what ever comes by me is a joy and I sure am glad to see some deer and turkey's.If during the rut a big boy does come by,cool.
I would much rather see alot of action than just wait on that big boy.It brings the fun back. And believe me you'll see the big boy when you aren't trying.

    Jarred,

Give traditional archery a try. A recurve or longbow might be just what you need.

I'm not at the point in my archery career where it has become mundane, but I did get that way with rifle hunting. I am a gun nut, so I still wanted to firearm hunt. My solution was to put the rifle in the safe, and start handgun hunting. The very first time I had a shot was like my very first time all over again!!!

I have also started taking my 12 year old stepson hunting with me. He killed his very first whitetail last year. Him taking a doe was as exciting for me as my biggest buck! I highly recommend it! He will be archery hunting with me this year, so I'm pumped about that, too.............

first off....I can help you with those "mediocre" 130s....

Get involved in QDM....not only will it help you get rid of those mediocre 130s, but its always a thrill to see what you can "produce" when you get really amped up with it....you improve the herd, improve the quality of animals you take, and can get involved in dozens of seasonal, pre-seasonal activities to make it more enjoyable....

Now, this is purely a superficial response to your issue...if it goes beyond that, then I am of no help...sometimes, some years it is in me, some it ain't...just depends on the year and the circumstances...

the youngster doesn't have to be your own. put the word out. Jarred it sounds like you have a lot of experiance to offer a kid just starting out.

Like already has been said, take a child or a new hunter. I have been fortunate to harvest deer in my life and I have been excited but I can tell you with all honesty, nothing and I mean nothing, hunting wise, has ever had me so excited as watching my son when he was 8 take his first deer. He took 3 that year and took 2 last year. I get tired and don't want at times but his drive and excitement motivates me to go and every trip is awesome, whether we kill or not.

Re: I need some motivation.. (TCast)

I've taken 5 kids out who've killed their first deer. I'm not sure who's been the most excited me or them.

As far as 130's when you see a 150+ you'll be motivated again.

I once knew there was a 200 incher on a farm I hunted and I almost couldn't sleep for 2 years. I saw him twice, my son saw him once and my wife made a bad shot on him. ("buck fever", 30 yards with a gun ) I guess he died of old age because we saw him the year after my wife grazed him and no one has seen him since.

Maybe you need to take up knife hunting. I read a story about taking a boar with a knife and my first reaction was "you're effing nuts!" A little too much bloodlust for me (I'm just a wuss) but I imagine it gets the adrenaline going.

The weather has not changed enought to hunt yet. The huntin bug doesn't even start to hit me until the weather starts to cool off more. But then again I will fish entil the lakes freeze and get back on them when they thaw. Come the first of November the huntin bug will start biten.
