    Weight: live or dressed?

When talking about deer weights, do you usually give live weights or field dressed? It seems to depend on where you're from. Personally, if I bother to put one on the scale it's gonna be completely empty. Others put the heart and liver back in. And it seems some folks weigh the deer uncut while others dress it, weigh it, and add a certain percentage to get back to live weight.
Some people are so judgemental. You can tell just by looking at 'em.--Some random meme

I always consider weight when the deer is dressed out. Meaning NOTHING left inside........

whole weight, and then dressed weight...we record them both...its one of those things you really need to do to get a good picture of harvest data, herd health, etc. But for those who don't need to record all of that, I say save the money on a scale and buy some more climbing sticks.....

I field dress mine so they are easier to get out of the woods. My biggest was 210 lbs. My wife on the other hand killed a droptined buck that tipped the scapes at 248 lbs.

I hunted in Canada a few years ago and their deer are huge. You wouldn't want to try and move one of them without field dressing it. I passed an 8 point that would have weighed over 300. A saw one brought in at 336 and we were hunting the last week of season when they were run down.

I record them dressed out on our farm. The "gut pile" is next to a stream and the bone pile is in the corner of a field. I can see them both from my front porch. It is easy pickins for me to shoot those dang coyotes! - DC
