    I Have had enough......

of the hunting programs that I have been watching for the past two months. It's time I get back to the woods. I have been busting my tail on the property hanging stands and planting plots and I need to get in there. Two weeks out.....hope everyone has a safe and successful season.

You could be like me. I have hunted the same land for the last two years. This year the owner told me that he was gonna let two of the people that work with him hunt the woods. Its only fifty acres that butt up to the swamp so there were plenty of deer coming through. I guess I wont be hunting this year.

I'm ready! Now that the hurricanes have killed all the freshwater fish down in South, Louisina I'm kind of lost right now.

Kirby, you can always head to public land, that is all that I hunt. I have been shooting limits of teal every hunt and do pretty good with deer locally. Lots of wood ducks on Joyce and Maurepas WMA and a good doe population.

Wow Kirby, that stinks. Although it may seem too late, have you tried knocking on doors? Better yet, call your local game warden. He'll know the land owners that he's had to issue kill permits to, and he might be able to hook you up.

Kirby, I hunt my wife's family property 16 miles south of Ruston. It is only 100 acres but the best 100 acres around because it is all hard woods, ridges and bottoms with 2 creeks running down the middle of it. They are kinda funny about who hunts there because of liability reasons but I will check with them and you could make a few hunts with me. Right now it's me and my son and my two brother-in-laws when they come in from out of state(maybe once a year). I would be good to meet you and have you hunt with us. Last year we took a 8 point, 9 point, 2 does and could have shot does every weekend. I'll IM you after a talk to my wife's Aunt.

My nephew goes to school at Tech and My wife's nephew lives in Ruston. I didn't know they have that kind of deer population there.

I appreciate the offer Troy I just may have to take you up on the offer. WE are still waiting to see if the two guys are really gonna show up or not. THe hurricane did some pretty good damage to the property and there a good bit of trees down so it may be too much for them to mess wiht. The trees down wont bother me because I already have my stands inthe woods from last year. I really appreciate the offer I will let you know.

We don't have an over abundance of deer but we have this one stand where every morning we were there at 7:30 we would have 3 - 6 does show up. You could almost set your watch by them. This is the same stand we took a good 8 point off of. We are surrounded by thousands of acres that are leased up to clubs and we work with both clubs to manage our bucks. I control the land as far as harvesting deer goes and the only exception I allow is for a child or young man/woman to take their first deer. After my son has taken one or two, we mostly study them so we can BOTH learn a little more about them.
