    Hard to reach battery

One of my batts is in a very hard to reach place making it a pain to get to thus making it a pain to charge everytime. Is there any way to run extender cables from the battery post to someplace easy to hook the charger to without shorting something out?

if the battery is in the back, i would put an onboard charger on the battery, then you can just plug in the power cord. hope this helps.

sure there is. just attach a cable from each of your battery posts to a bolt for each mounted where they will be accesible (make sure they are coded positive and negative) and clip your charger to these bolts and away you go. Just make sure that you have the bolts where they will never com into contact with each other
    ( dead short).

I thought about this but wasn't sure if I'd have to insulate around the bolts to keep them from shorting out against the metal in the boat itself. But....if I mounted the bolts thru the wooden deck I wouldn't have that to worry about would I?

I have seen guys with similar situation take an extension cord and cut off a section(female). Split the wires and put battery terminals on them, connect to battery. Then, with a dedicated charger for this use cut off the clamp ends and place the other end (male) of the extension cord on the charger. Now all you have to do is "plug" it in.

Those trickle chargers have wires that stay attached to the battery. They have a pin type plug that the charger plugs into. Some would charge a battery in 24 hours.

This may be too small of amps but See the stay on wires.

I've got a Battery Tender Jr. that I use for the cranking batt and lawn mower. This hard to get to batt that I've got is wired in parallel with another batt in the back of the boat and according to the Battery Tender folks the Jr. is not designed to maintain two batts in parallel. Great idea though for the wires. Thanks.

Re: Hard to reach battery (VTFan)

Some guys setup their charger so that they can plug it in at the bow, after unplugging the TM. The real problem is checking the water level. Boiling a battery dry (exposing the plates even a little) is not at all good for the battery.

My batteries, like yours, are hard to check the water level, so I have Delco Voyager gel cells (no water checking) plus an onboard charger. I like!

I agree with walkabout. Get a Delco Vyager maintainance-free battery.
