Help, New Nitro Bass boat.. handling

Hey everybody first post here, I just recently bought a 93' Nitro bass boat with a 115hp Evinrude o/b. I have used it a couple of times on small lakes and it is the best for the bass fishing. I recently went to greenwood lake which borders NJ/NY and (edit) what a scary ride. The swells created by the other huge boats are huge and make my nitro handle real bad. In one point I had to let another boat pass in front of me since I was going across and he was going up the lake, the waves he left made my boat make bow up real high and than when it came back down water came in from the front that made my 2 front passangers get wet real nicely. Am I doing something wrong or what can I do to handle these big swells/waves?

    Hi Jess, welcome to BBC...
First you have to understand that bigger water, bigger boats and the waves they put out are also bigger. When you cross a wave you want to do it at a 45 degree angle and you don't want to be trimmed up. Trim down to about mid point to help keep the boat level so when you crest a wave it doesn't go nose high. The fact that you had 3 people in the boat added more weight so what you did was to actually "spear" the wave. Your abilities will increase in time, just take it easy and use common sense when you are behind the wheel.

Hey thanks for the reply, I think I took that big wave in a sideways instead of straight across the wave. The trim was at a normal level. It was me driving the boat, my father to the left and than 2 other ppl in front of the wheel and another in front of the other side where there is handles. I was going slow with the boat since I normaly go with only 3 people max. Thanks for answering and for the welcome.

Jess welcome aboard. With time you will find out what you can and cannot handle in your new boat. As others said, the weight is a big factor in what happened to you. Do a search on Google, there are a couple of good articles on the web about how to drive a bass boat.
    Enjoy.
