    Using muffs to run motor

When starting/running my 175 pro xs motor with the "earmuffs" , there was not a stream of water coming from peehole. Didn't run it long, just wantinfg to make sure it would star ok after sitting for 3 months. Called the dealer the next day to ask him about it and he said that it was normal. Wouldn't have stream of water until thermostats opened.

    Right/Wrong/ Opinions??

    Thanks,
    T Rich

Right on: until the thermostats open, just make sure that you have the ears in place and water on prior to starting.

You should have had a pee stream within about a minute. The pee stream is the Visual Indicator that you are pumping water. Thermostats have nothing to do with the pee stream. Check and see if you have some sort of blockage at the pee hole.

I always put the muffs on then turn the water on and let it sit there for a minute or 2 so it'll fill up with water, then start it. I have numerous holes in the gearcase that outputs water. When they all are putting water out I'll crank her up.

i think you have the front water pick ups on the lower unit on that motor. make sure you cover the water pick ups w/ tape infront of the nose cone to get enough water into the motor. turn water on before you start and in very short time you should get a stream.
dont forget to remove tape when ur done
