    Tying up boat to pier

Last year in the great flood in Wisconsin I had my old boat tied directly to the poles on the pier with a short rope. When the water got to be eight inches over the pier the rope held the boat down and water came over the transom because no one was there to adjust the ropes. If you leave the ropes longer then the boat will bang the pier. Is there a way to tie it up so this will not happen again?

How about using some of the boat bumpers? You just hang them over the side of the boat, so the pier contacts them, instead of the boat. Either that, or line the pier with something that won't damage the boat.

I did have bumpers. I wanted to know a way to tie it so if the water level goes way up that the ropes will not pull the boat under.

try the bungees ties (not bungee cords). We use these on our Cobalt and I use them on my Skeeter.

Steal some little girl's arm floaties, and put them around your docking rope where it loops around the pole. Leave the loop around the pole loose, so it will slide up.

Pink ones with flowers work best!

Re: Tying up boat to pier (AmesHusker)

I saw a gizzmoe the other day online somewhere it was like 2 semi-flexable poles mounted to each end of the dock and ropes at the other ends to tie the boat to... I cant find the link...Somebody here should know what they are called. The two poles extend from the dock and ruffly a 45deg angle and the ropes hang down so after you get out of the boat the flexible poles allow the boat to drift away a couple of feet to keep it off the dock and allow for up and down travel when its time to get back in you just pull and atached rope to pull the boat back in close...

Tie your boat with ropes long enough so that it will almost make it to the opposite side but not quite. Or get some coffee cans and fill with concrete and hang your ropes with pulleys.

Attach 2 lengths of galvanized pipe to the pier (5 or six feet or whatever you need.) slip a loop over the pipe then tie up the boat. the loop will slide up the pipe as the water rises and boat floats up
