Turning while on pad at WOT

When I have my boat WOT and "on the pad" (i.e. the "butt" and motor are in the water), do I need to slow down or trim down to make turns? I have been getting accustomed to driving the boat, and feel pretty comfortable opening the throttle and trimming up on straightaways, I am just concerned about how much of a turn I can make with it riding like this.

Generally, depending on the steepness of the turn, I won't come off the throttle at all. I just trim down from full to about 3/4 or maybe a little lower. IF it's a very hard turn, then I will come off the throttle a little while also trimming down, but most of the time, like I said, I keep my foot in it and just trim down.

Ditto what deer 0307 said..Just be sure to watch your water pressure in a hard turn at WOT.You may need to trim down some to maintain pressure.

So even though I feel like I may go spinning off out of control, the boat will actually stay in the water and make the turn, huh? It just feels like when I have it wound out that it wouldn't turn although I see all the other bass boats doing.

I probably am hitting 60 WOT, although I don't have the GPS numbers to substantiate that. I am just guesstimating.

As a matter of fact, when I get the motor trimmed down properly, she'll bite into the water in a turn and never feel squirrelly at all. I think you'll be surprised at how well you can turn at speed. As was said, make sure to watch your WP in the turn because it can drop a good bit if you don't adjust your trim down some. You will need to get some seat time to become accustomed to the way your boat feels in a turn because each hull/motor combo handles differently and ALL handle turns a LOT differently than a car. Hope this helps. Just get on the water 1 day and do nothing but drive around the lake. That's the best way to learn how to drive and what to do/not to do.

Experiment with turning. On my rig, turn easy, she turns great, turn moderate t, she seems to slide some, but turn hard, she bites and goes.

You need to figure out how hard it will turn safely, so if you need to, you know you can.

Every boat is different and act different at different speeds so be safe trim down and go as fast as you are comfortable then work up speed from there. It might be best to try this in a wide open area so that if you need to make an ajustment wile running it wont put you on the bank.

Good advice. It's that pucker factor that's in effect when you transfer your ability from being a driver to a passenger in a turn. I did that 2 winters ago. You got to know how far you can take it in a turn.

Also try to remember to start your turn sooner than you would think you need to....your boat isn't going to respond like a car..so you kinda need to anticipate your turn..like said... nothing but seat time will help you get accustomed..AND REMEMBER...have FUN

They thought it promoted unsafe boating.

That looks alot safer to me than watching some of these pleasure boater. But I get that's for another topic.
