Can someone explain the disadvantages vs advantages of each. I am looking for a new starting battery - gp 27 - preferably sealed. I do see a lot of dual purposes being advertised.
Thanks

Not certain it really makes any difference. Does the dual purpose cost more? They used to be more expensive than a regular cranking battery. I'd just use a regular one.

Of course I talk to myself...sometimes I need expert advice.
I use the dual purpose because of the extra capacity of the battery. When you are running two graphs, gps, lights, livewell pumps, etc, etc all day long, and not doing much running of the big motor, your cranking battery really gets a drain. So you get the high instant output needed for cranking, but also the reserve capacity to run alll the other stuff all day.![]()

I agree with tr186. go with the dual puropose for the same reasons stated. I actually have 3 of the duals. work really good for me. las all day with the tm and the big motor.

I was told by a battery store that the deep cycle batteries should be used for the trolling motor and the battery for you accessories/big motor should be a cranking battery. He said that deep cycle batteries don't like quick discharges and recharges and it will eventually reduce the life of the deep cycle battery.
Plus the cranking batteries are cheaper.
