    Purpose of a jackplate

Sorry for the newbie question. The only other prior boat I`ve had before the boat I bought last weekend only had a 9.9 horse on it.

Re: Purpose of a jackplate (YoMoma)

Does a few things- it acts as a lever between the motor and hull providing more lift, therefore less wetted surface (friction) which usually means more speed.
It also places the prop in "cleaner" water- farther from the pad of the boat allowing it to hook up more efficiently.
And, it also allows easy height adjustments of the motor which can drastically improve the handling and speed of the boat.
