Theres been alot of post on here talking about overtrimming causing problems. I was wondering if there was an exact way to get you boat to that "perfect" trim setting. and mark the gauge for future referance. Any help would greatly be appreciated. I have a TR-196 PD with a Merc. 150 hp XR6 . Any prop suggestions or setup tips would be helpful also. I'm running a tempest 23".

Don't trust the gauge. The "right" setting will change depending on water conditions, load, air temperature, whether your livewells are full or empty etc. You'll get to where you just "know". I trim it until the RPMs quit going up, then back it down just a hair. After a while, you don't even pay any attention to what your hand is doing on the trim.
If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity,
nothing else matters.
Thanks for the help, I've heard about trimming until your speed quites going up and then back off a hair. Some people has said you can gain RPMs but loose speed by over trimming and thats where I was trying to find info. Thats kinda the way I go about it now. Thanks again

i dont have hydraulic steering so i just trim up till my steering wheel feels looser ,hope this makes sense

you heard right. overtrimming reduces forward thrust from the prop. it lets the rpm go up due to less bite. assuming the height is set right, then what you said about finding the spot and backing off a little is right on the money.
