What I like to do is back the trailer all the way in the water so you get all the bunks wet. This will help the boat slide up the trailer easier and it is easier on the carpet on the bunks as well. Some trailers are different, but what I do is then pull the trailer out of the water to where the front of the two shorter bunks are just out of the water. When I pull my boat up on the trailer, I don't have to give it very much gas at all. A lot of the times, I will use my winch to pull the boat the rest of the way on the trailer. It will take some trial and error to find the right spot to have your trailer.

Go to the search page and look around, I found tons of stuff on there, and I am sure before long there will be several links posted showing you where to look! I am still experimenting with mine, but getting better.

Its all about finding the sweet spot of where your trailer needs to be. Once you figure it out, you will get it perfect everytime. Sounds like you need to back in a bit further.

Back the trailer in a little deeper. Memorize where the water level is on the bunks and try to load it. If it still won't latch go a little deeper until you get it where it loads like it should. After many trips to the water it will be second nature.

I have found that I need to back the trailer in much farther than I thought I would have to. Most info says to back in until your wheels are in the water 3/4 of the way up. I started there and needed to keep putting it in more. Now I have the the fenders completely covered and it works much better.

Having said that the steepness of the ramp will have some impact on how far in you need to be. If you go to the same place all the time you will get it figured out fairly quickly.
