Jack Plates

i just purchased a 05 xpress hdsc17 with a 06 yamaha f60 four stroke.great boat love it to death.what advantages would a jack plate give me?what actually is the purpose of a jack plate?thanks in advance

in my opinion , only thing it may do is get the engine to run in cleaner water. most boats under 18 feet and less than 90 hp do not benefit in speed handling or such from jack-plates only that the engine may and it is a big may May run in cleaner less turbulent water.
